Cam's mother and sister have been commenting on it, disagreeing with what he said.

Gotta love Huff opening the kimono and signaling to potential recruits (and everyone else, for that matter) that Marshall’s well is dry where NIL money is concerned.

Troy's Sumrall interviewed at Tulane and wants the job, per NOLA.com
Guess that heated moment in the CCG didn't impact his marketability.

Smart for Sumrall to strike while his iron is hottest. Back to back conference titles, clear evidence of knowing how to build/rebuild - the guy should have pretty high stock right now.
Also assuming he’s gonna get a hefty raise at Tulane.
Give 'em hell!

Mew, I see Tulane as lateral at best. The AAC is not what it was 2 years ago and although Tulane had a nice little run, I see the importance of all AAC teams being significantly diminished in the coming years. They currently get more TV money but those contracts were made when they were a much more appealing and tough football conference, the headliners are gone and the backfilled teams are garbage. Not sure why he would leave the premier G5 conference for Tulane. Stick with Troy until the P5 come calling for a real bank roll.

Tulane is a private school with a reportedly bigger budget. Plus, it may be easier to win a Championship in the AAC.t4pizza wrote: ↑Thu Dec 07, 2023 8:24 pmMew, I see Tulane as lateral at best. I just recently visited Troy, Alabama and hope I never have to go back again. Troy, Alabama versus New Orleans...This is not a lateral movet4pizza wrote: ↑Thu Dec 07, 2023 8:24 pmMew, I see Tulane as lateral at best. With that said, folks on Troy were super nice.

Re: Sun Belt coaching carousel
No joke! If I could live in uptown or the garden district of NOLA and coach D1 CFB for a living, as compared to Troy, AL then I'd probably honestly take a pay cut. In reality, he's probably at least tripling his salary, as Tulane's pockets run pretty deep. In that case, I don't think I'd even take my clothes out of the closet in Troy...wouldn't want to wait around town any longer than I had to. Just buy new ones at Rubensteins when I get down south. Beignets await!BambooRdApp wrote: ↑Fri Dec 08, 2023 6:15 amI just recently visited Troy, Alabama and hope I never have to go back again. Re: Sun Belt coaching carousel
He probably sees that the new watered down AAC will be easier to win than a tougher Sunbelt. Might be an easier path to the playoffs despite Troy's recent success.

Re: Sun Belt coaching carousel
My exact thoughts. App should be back on top in 2024, notice I said should be, and that is another plus. Between the raise and easier route to win a league I don't blame him for the move. He will just have UTSA and Memphis as the big roadblocks in the AAC but if he stayed at Troy he would have App, Marshall, JMU, CCU, Texas State, and Ga Southern.Bigdaddyg1 wrote: ↑Fri Dec 08, 2023 7:25 amHe probably sees that the new watered down AAC will be easier to win than a tougher Sunbelt. Congrats to Sumrall! I wonder who will be available in the portal from Troy in the next 48-72 hours?

Re: Sun Belt coaching carousel
Sumrall accepting the Tulane position is actually the right move for him. Why, you may ask?
Pro's
1. Bigger paycheck
2. Winning program (not a rebuild)
3. Roster with plenty of talent
4. Private school with significant resources
5. Large TV market
6. Enthusiastic fan base
7. Better restaurants
8. Shopping options other than Walmart, DG & the gas station
Con's
1. Crime
2. Hurricanes + city below sea level
3. See #1
In short, this is a higher-profile gig in a higher-profile conference. Given the weakness of the AAC and pending departures, Sumrall will have a perfect springboard to a top-tier ACC/SEC job when one comes available. What will be interesting to see is who goes to NOLA with him (players & coaches).
For my part, there's an outside chance Gasparato goes to Tulane. But I wouldn't be surprised if Troy taps him to be their next head coach. I would rather have Gas outside the SBC, but he's a great dude and it would be a well-deserved promotion for him.
