100% but I am talking about these two players in particular. For example, I fully expect Mantis to end up at another mid-major.hapapp wrote: ↑Tue Mar 26, 2024 12:15 pmBut there are plenty of mid majors that might be able to offer them more than we can. Moreover, I'm talking all sports not just basketball. And, we have had players leave our program for other SBC schools.AppStFan1 wrote: ↑Tue Mar 26, 2024 9:49 amI completely understand that. The others are not "bad ones". Not saying that is what you are insinuating..The kids are are just doing what the system allows.
This very thing is a big reason why I won't give to NIL collectives or participate in pay to play of any kind. We just don't have the capability to outbid these ACC, Big East, SEC, etc teams and so I see no reason in participating in pay to play. I am all for true NIL but these collectives are literally meant to pay players to stay and play and I just won't do it. I want players who want to be here. I rather lose doing this the right way than win by bribing kids to stay.

I just said they would end up at power programs and did not say they would start. I think they are making mistakes because they are going to likely be backups.appgrad95&97 wrote: ↑Tue Mar 26, 2024 12:16 pmFirst, I love these guys and really appreciate what they did at App. BUT, Abson averaged (basically) 8 points, 7 rebounds, and 2.8 blocks a game in the SUN BELT. How does that make him a starter in, say the ACC? Spillers was at a JoCo last year and averaged 13 points and 9 rebounds, again in the SUN BELT. Where in the ACC (just a regional example) do they start? Louisville? Georgia Tech? BC? It's an honest question.AppStFan1 wrote: ↑Tue Mar 26, 2024 9:57 amBased on talent of Abson and Spillers I 100% expect them to be in one of those conferences.appgrad95&97 wrote: ↑Tue Mar 26, 2024 9:25 amLet's see where these guys end up. One post I've seen suggests that Arkansas State has raised $500,000 for basketball NIL.AppStFan1 wrote: ↑Tue Mar 26, 2024 9:49 amI completely understand that. Very true. Players like Donovan and CJ are indeed among the good ones out there. Thank you to both of them!
So many questions for our basketball program that seemed to be more solid. We know teams would come calling but I thought those guys would stay to finish the job if Kerns stays. I hope we will find out on Kerns pretty quickly.

That is what I am terrified of. If Kerns was staying (who knows) he could have made that very case to them. If this team had come back minus Gregory, we could have been really good. I like the team we could have had coming back more than the bottom of the majors.AppStFan1 wrote: ↑Tue Mar 26, 2024 12:28 pmI just said they would end up at power programs and did not say they would start. Re: Portal season (Abson, Spillers, etc)
We could have been really good for the Sun Belt. This team was missing a very good and consistent 3 point shooter (not one that stands in corner waiting for an open 3 that rarely occurs) and a point guard that can score (does not have to be from outside..one with handles and can get to badler routinely) and a decent defender...just my observation.appgrad95&97 wrote: ↑Tue Mar 26, 2024 12:37 pmThat is what I am terrified of. Worry not, with modern chemistry there are cleaning compounds strong enough cleanse even that stench off people.311neers wrote: ↑Tue Mar 26, 2024 1:51 pmOne of them played at Stink...ew.appstate24 wrote: ↑Tue Mar 26, 2024 1:29 pmFWIW, I just saw on X, Coach Kerns has offered some JUCO kids.

Depth. Power 5 programs have enough money to buy depth. Who knows, in the right situation one or both could see significant minutes.appgrad95&97 wrote: ↑Tue Mar 26, 2024 12:16 pmFirst, I love these guys and really appreciate what they did at App. BUT, Abson averaged (basically) 8 points, 7 rebounds, and 2.8 blocks a game in the SUN BELT. I don't know the money in basketball but in the SEC there are backups getting 50K or more in football. Crazy money on top of scholarship and all the amenities they get at 18-22 years old.proasu89 wrote: ↑Tue Mar 26, 2024 5:38 pmDepth. Power 5 programs have enough money to buy depth. I just saw Spillers list that has reached out to him. Wake is the only better team out of about 8. Grass ain’t always greener.

They can test the waters and then jump out of the portal and back in the App pool (if the staff accepts them back).

Re: Portal season (Abson, Spillers, etc)
I believe Zocko had some family stuff based off previous posters. That’s a shame because he shot 36% from 3 this year and 91% from the line. Not sure about the others, Ogletree left real early don’t even know if he made it to the spring semester.DenverOfTheEast wrote: ↑Mon Mar 25, 2024 7:04 pmSomething isn't adding up.
Only 1 player from the freshman and sophomore recruiting classes remains (Luke Wilson).
Gone are Zocko, Ogletree, Abson, Sasha, Marsh, Strothers, Hayes...... 7 out of 8.
"Eval" issues or things that make you say hmmmm.
