Sounds fishy to me. Given the publicity that Dule has unfairly received in the past, I will give them the benefit of the doubt unless evidence is found to support that they knew about it. As much as I dislike the Duke brand, I think the Coach K is a real asset to college basketball. My original post was more of a question as to why no one had mentioned it on this board.

Lets count the number of negative articles in the paper over the last few days: Duke 1, Carolina, oh crap, I lost count. posting.php?mode=reply&f=12&t=499#" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I don't think anyone is intentionally giving Duke a pass on the integrity test. It's just that Duke isn't (at present, anyway) under investigation. Sooner or later, the wheel of fortune will point at the Durham campus.

At UNC, the magic way to pad an athlete's GPA has apparently been the AfroAmerican Studies program. It's not a huge secret that at Duke, it's the independent study. A few years back, a famous Duke All-American post player spent his entire summer barnstorming Europe with a collegiate all-star team. Never once did he set foot on campus from the end of the spring semester until the day before fall classes were to start. He did, however, pull four (yep, that's 4) A's in independent studies he was registered for. That was just what he needed to remain eligible for what would be his final year before jumping to the NBA. Common practice in the land of Coach K.

A thorough look into that independent studies program would be very, very interesting.
