I remain loyal, nothing will change this. However, right now I’ve got nothing to say til season ends.

Re: Worst I’ve ever seen
I'm not proud of it. I listened to the entire radio stream of the Clemson game three weeks ago. When Adam joked late in the fourth about how there was probably no one listening, I was still there. I just couldn't do it again last night.yosef69 wrote: ↑Fri Sep 20, 2024 7:00 amAnd when your biggest fans don’t think about your team getting smoked at home to a previously bad program… you have reached irrelevance. YayAppfaninCAALand wrote: ↑Fri Sep 20, 2024 6:58 amIt wasn't the worst loss I have ever seen....because I didn't watch it. I checked the score while at my daughter's game, saw it was 28-0 and never thought about it again until this morning.

Re: Worst I’ve ever seen
Between Clemson and USA - we were never really in either game. With ECU - a more accurate QB on ECU's side - probably a loss. I am not an insider - however, in general - if it is not working - make changes until it works. We should move on to fix the overall product. Is it players, coaches etc..... It could be a combination of both. All I know is that we put out the same product year after year while other teams are more creative, bigger and faster players etc...., we look over matched last night and we should be looking to make changes. It could be coaching, players, scheme etc....
Maybe we do not have the platers to make the correct changes - I do remember in the ETSU game that we showed several new offensive wrinkles. We have not seen any of that since. Seems to be a lot of inconsistency on this team. And.... we repeat the same mistakes and reads on the field.

This program was built on great recruiting, and that is no longer the case.

I agree that coaching is an issue, but our defense small and slow, especially up front and at LB. Name one head-hunter that stands out on our defense. We looked like a D2 team talent-wise last night, especially on "D".

Re: Worst I’ve ever seen
I have to disagree. Our overall talent level has been on a downward trend since we had Zac Thomas, Jalen Virgil, DeMarco Jackson, Thomas Hennigan, Darrynton Evans etc.appgrad95&97 wrote: ↑Fri Sep 20, 2024 6:53 amI might disagree with you here. All the pieces are in Boone. I think we have plenty of talent to be a top G5 program. The head coach is the problem. He was a lazy hire, who was not qualified for the job he was given. The only hope was that he could grow into the job. He didn't. If we move on there needs to be a serious search. We recovered pretty quickly from the Mike Working years, and we had a lot less going for us then. A good coach can fix this.AppSt12 wrote: ↑Fri Sep 20, 2024 6:46 amThe worst part is...that was possibly our easiest FBS opponent remaining. There is no saving this. We will take years to recover from the Shawn Clark expirement because we didnt pull the trigger after a 6-6 season. This is not App State football and we should all be ashamed for letting it get this far. App State was a top non p5 national brand for nearly 20 years...that is gone and we may not get back.
Thats the part of college football that sucks...the nature of the game takes years to rebuild a succesful program...especially when you dont have an unlimited budget. But we were like frogs boiling alive in hot water...in various ways we convinced ourselfs that 9-3 was acceptable when shawn took over a team that had gone 11-2 and 13-1 and had all the 2019 players return. We accepted a 4 loss season, getting slaughtered by Louisiana and losing the conference title. We accepted 6-6. Then we were so excited to have a 5-1 streak to end 2023 despite going 8-5 and getting crushed by Troy in the title game. Then we look back and no conference titles in 4 years, a losing record by 7-8 games vs opponents we were +/- 5 pts favorites or underdogs and our first bowl loss in humiliating fashion. Now we are in year 5....so none of our players know how to win like App State wins and the dream is dead. We will likely never make the cfb playoff and are doomed to mediocrity because of shawn clark. And the timing couldnt be worse...as the changed landscape of college football required us to be good now to survive these changes.

Before you can ever quit on a coach you have to quit on yourself. The first failier is on you.WataugaMan wrote: ↑Fri Sep 20, 2024 6:29 amI've heard recently that last year the team quit on SC, didn't make sense seeing how we finished. However, to this point this season that "argument" APPears to hold water.

Everything falls on the coach. He recruited these players. A ton have left because they weren’t good enough. And he’s not putting the ones he’s got in good positions.

Re: Worst I’ve ever seen
Stayed til the bitter end. Positive side I no longer have any expectations for any remaining game. If we win thats great if we lose it wasnt unexpected so im not bothered as much. Negative side by the end of the game South Alabama players just mulling around no longer excited at what they were doing to us. Its like they realized they just trucked a very bad team.

It would set us back even more. I fully expect Shawn to go 6-6 or 7-5 and we move on from him in December though.

I am trying to stamp down my anger so I have an honest question. Where do you see 4 or five more wins?

I'm going to say it: Clark shoud be fired today. Put Ponce in as interim and begin a real search now. Signal to the fan base that we are serious and take advantage of four month head start on coaching searches. Now is our administration serious about this, we'll see.

Re: Worst I’ve ever seen
I’m sorry but I absolutely positively don’t see the great and talented roster that some seem to believe we have. Just because we moved up to Triple A does not automatically signal a more talented roster. This is not to disparage the players we have by any means but our linebackers a few years back were solid tacklers who routinely made plays for loss of yards. We had a secondary who didn’t get torched over and over. We have guys now who chase receivers and grab jerseys because they get burnt. We had one back after another who not only hit 1,000 yards but would wear down defenses. We had quarterbacks who would tuck it and run. How many times last night did we hit a receiver or ball carrier after a few yards but failed to bring him down? Is that a factor of size, technique or desire? It wasn’t that long ago when our undersized defense made up for it with fast swarming attacks.

Re: Worst I’ve ever seen
We did not see November happening last year and it happened. I understand frustration but we should only make a move in-season if we see what we saw against South Alabama the next few weeks. The buyout drops in December and recruiting will take a hit either way.

Re: Worst I’ve ever seen
If recruiting takes a hit, but we bring on a Head Coach that has fresh schemes and an understanding of the way that college football is played in 2024 I think it's still a win. Let that guy bring in his own recruits. We're going to have a rough 25 anyway but I'd rather have it be rough on the incline than rough with Shawn at the helm.
What sucks is I like the guy, he's one of us. I'd love to see him end up nearby at a FCS school.
