Re: Worst I’ve ever seen
App fans.
Would you support an FBS split and the G5 going into a separate division with playoffs and regionalized conferences or do you like the status quo (not your team, the current structure of FBS).
My wish is that the G5 split off, be joined by some upper tier FCS teams, form a new division and have the same playoff system as the FCS.
Then regionalize conferences so that most of our games are drivable.
That would mean you guys are likely in a conference with us, ECU, Marshall, Coastal, JMU, ODU, Georgia Souther and State, UAB, etc.
I would like to experience what you guys experienced when you were FCS powerhouses. And I’m never going to experience that in the current construction of FBS. There is no hope of that.
Put us in a level we can at least theoretically compete for championships.
What say you?

it's time to pull the plug and do a hard restart. we've been embarrassed twice this year and there's no sign of improvement. time to clean house and get back to old school app state standards of winning. getting curb stomped by a P4 on the road is one thing... getting your a$$ handed to you in your own house is another. time to make the hard decisions. It is time, App Nation.

Re: Worst I’ve ever seen
We need to stop this ‘if he loved App he would step down’ stuff. The man is owed over a million dollars from us, please find me someone who would walk away from that payday out of “love for his school”. I don’t believe anybody would do that.
As for a mid season firing, we all need to remember that we have an interim chancellor. What interim is going to fire the head football coach? And more importantly, who is going to ultimately over see the new hiring process. Whoever the new Chancellor is will want to bring in their own people (AD, coach, etc) and anyone wanting this job will want to be hired by the new administration and not the interim guy bc that doesn’t lead to much security. We will have him the entire season, just accept it. Ironically, the interim issue may be the sole reason that Napier doesn’t get the axe mid season as well. We need a stable administration, Chancellor and new AD (Gillen has to get the axe for this mess) before we find out next coach.

Re: Worst I’ve ever seen
I’m not happy at all about what happened last night. But seriously, y’all: take a deep breath and relax.
Why? Because it’s just a game. A bunch of 20-year old kids running and throwing a ball and tackling each other.
App got humiliated last night, but the economy didn’t collapse nor did thermonuclear war break out. We still have our families and jobs and friends and (as much as I dislike quoting DOTE) the sun did rise this morning.
It’s gonna be a beautiful weekend. Go have fun and put last night in the rear view. You deserve it.

See what Texas got after they fired Mack Brown, What ECU got after they fired Ruffin McNeal, and what Florida State got after they fired Bobby Bowden.

The vast majority of us wanted and still want Shawn to succeed. I just couldn’t get past the lack of physicality on his teams. That was a bad sign for me.App_in_Maiden wrote: ↑Fri Sep 20, 2024 2:49 pmI’m one of those folks that has tried to be patient with this and have no problem admitting that. Thus, my “Hot Take”… are we focusing on learning these new analytics and “softer/smarter” preparation… vs the blue collar nuts and bolts that the program was built on.Mjohn1988 wrote: ↑Fri Sep 20, 2024 2:41 pmWe must be using it wrong. The stated goal is to Not wanting to put wear and tear on the players. He spoke of monitoring “Effort/exertion” and based on all the data can tell when a player is going 60% vs 90% in practice.
I cannot recall where I heard this, but believe it was the BGP pod back during the ETSU week.

They’ve got Noah Hannon playing puppeteer blaming the alumni for lack of NIL. Some ex players barking back at him. I’ve seen it all with this staff and leadership.

The question I will ask anyone who brings up money is does USA have more money than we have? Cause it looked like they had Alabama’s budge and we had Caldwell Community’s budget.

More money isn’t going to give the guys heart, effort or return the culture to form. I’ve never in my life seen players give up mid-game in an app uniform until this year and I’ve seen it happen twice in 4 games. Blaming the fans who showed for a SELLOUT on a Thursday is one way to galvanize us against the administration. Thankful for Noah’s efforts and I’m sure the comment didn’t mean to sound the way it did but he needs to read the room. What happened last night didn’t occur because of a lack of funding. It had nothing to do with the 30k+ in the stands.

Re: Worst I’ve ever seen
You kind of touched on it. It's culture. That had always been the great equalizer for smaller programs that knew how to build up a student-athletes confidence. The reality is, when guys start feeling like employees, total mentality changes. I bet some guys on ECU and App think to themselves "screw it, I can put my name in the portal if things fall apart". The portal combined with NIL is a massive problem as not even NFL guys can switch teams like that. It killed what made CFB great. Now, G5s all have that to contend with, but it's going to be a constant gamble to hope you're mixing the right group of guys together.blunderbuss wrote: ↑Fri Sep 20, 2024 11:15 amECU fan here. We suck... just to go ahead and get that out of the way.appstatealum wrote: ↑Thu Sep 19, 2024 7:58 pmYeah. Hard to say some of us weren't concerned this was coming. This is a new age of CFB and many of us knew we were being left behind with our approach
Anyway, how is this relevant when playing other G5's? They've got the exact same challenges. We aren't competing against the P5. I only ask b/c I read the same types of takes on ECU boards and I don't disagree w/ it. At ECU our #1 problem is we still haven't recovered from the cultural rot of the past coach and administration. Right now we have an AD that just "isn't the last guy" and a HC who hates offense and blames players. It's a damn mess but none of it has anything to do w/ NIL or the portal. It's 99% self inflicted.

That’s exactly what some of the ex players responded with. Can’t believe they’ve got Hannon saying that kind of stuff.
