I think with Tulane when it dealt with Katrina and Ike all "home game" revenue went to the school outside of some usage overhead which went to the host site.
We are in need of someone to take over the maintenance of the MMB. Yosef has done it for a long time, and we are grateful for all he has done, but life happens and he no longer has the time to devote to its upkeep. If anyone here is interested in helping to keep the board running, please let me know via DM.

Do you think they will have BBQ at Wake and if so what kind, eastern or piedmont? Sorry guys, couldn’t resist. The question is on topic.

If we do play some or all our remaining games in WS then I’d recommend Real Q on Country Club Rd. for Lexington style Q. They also make an incredible Carolina Style double cheeseburger. Heard yesterday that they’ve had a busy week sending food up the mountain.

BBQ discussions are always interesting and sometimes funny. Those of us who have eaten our share of pig really know good from OK to no good. I don’t like wet and mushy. It’s all in the sauce!

The Cal student made the Gameday field goal!
He gets $100k.
Mcaffee and Gameday were giving $500k to Hurricane Helene relief efforts but tacked on another $100k since he made the kick.
$600k from Gameday/Mcafee to Hurricane Helene relief efforts. He is sometimes a prick, but the money they are raising is a very nice gesture in a tough time.

When will there be an official announcement on where the future home games will be played?

I wonder if they will make a decision to move the next home game with an option for the final two. Looks like they would need to have a decision on the October 26 game in the next week or so.

I love Pat McAfee. He is easily the best thing that has happened to ESPN Game Day and their daytime line-up of TV shows since Mike & Mike.311neers wrote: ↑Sat Oct 05, 2024 9:47 amThe Cal student made the Gameday field goal!

He’s a bit bombastic but he’s an Appalachian Mountaineer. He may be of the wrong variety but that’s what people don’t get, Appalachian isn’t just Boone. It encompasses a huge swath of the east coast and people in West Virginia have a lot in common with those of us that grew up along the Blue Ridge.
He’s a good dude.

Re: Home Season Moving Forward
We need to host some football games soon. Host homecoming, have a good time, win a game and improve the Boone economy. We’ve got 3 weeks to get ready. Students and the locals deserve it.
The days of 30-40k are probably gone, so that’ll help with crowd control, staffing and infrastructure.

Nah, I disagree here.311neers wrote: ↑Sun Oct 06, 2024 9:54 amWe need to host some football games soon. Host homecoming, have a good time, win a game and improve the Boone economy. We’ve got 3 weeks to get ready. Students and the locals deserve it.

We’re not just talking about Boone. We’re talking about every single community on the way to Boone in WNC. We’re talking about every single road on the way to Boone in WNC. The stress that hastily hosting a home game for the sake of “let’s bolster the local economy” won’t help when the infrastructure can’t handle it right now. That’s why numerous officials have said, “please stay away right now” to tourists.
Students and locals deserve a reprieve, sure, but not if it costs additional strain to their already limited resources, infrastructure, and lives. They will be there before and after your average fan makes their way up the mountain.

I just don’t see how resources can be allocated to host a game. Again , unless you are living it , I just can’t see it.

Re: Home Season Moving Forward
To Stonewall’s point, a significant number of governmental employees are required for football games to happen at KBS on any given Saturday. 100% of them are working crazy shifts right now
- managing traffic flow
- conducting well checks on residents
- searching for missing persons
- Notifying family members of missing individuals who have been found (living or not)
- investigating complaints/reports from citizens
- maintaining order at supply depots
- erecting/removing barricades
- repairing infrastructure
- treating & transporting the sick/injured
- speaking with/managing local, state & national media
- liaising with NGOs involved with relief & recovery efforts

Re: Home Season Moving Forward
Sorry mate, this is just a bad take in general. Being on the ground and helping since last Saturday, I just can't see anyway a home game happens this season in Boone.311neers wrote: ↑Sun Oct 06, 2024 9:54 amWe need to host some football games soon. Re: Home Season Moving Forward
The only real chance we have for a home game is 11/23 senior night, and that is a big if. 10/26 and 11/2 are far too soon. It would be incredible to send off the seniors in Boone after everything.

Re: Home Season Moving Forward
If the stories are true about finding bodies and I’m sure it’s completely true and with the many people right near Boone without power and with the agonizing suffering still going on to even think of organizing a football game seems secondary right now no matter how important we think it is. This is unfortunately a day by day week by week deal. To read that power crews are finding so many dead each day is a nightmare.

Re: Home Season Moving Forward
There are people employed by the university that have the responsibility of ensuring home games happen. They have to be working under the assumption and towards the goal of having home games as scheduled. Sure there are other areas that are more important, but everyone that has a job needs to move forward with their job. A ticket office employee or an Athletic Director will be of little value to the electric company in getting the lights back on. I'm sure there are folks that are working non-stop to ensure facilities are ready to resume classes as well. More than one thing can and must happen at a the same time. Just because someone is not directly involved in disaster relief does not mean there is a lack of caring.
