No, no. To hear some here, we are more destitute than those folks in Cullowhee.

It all depends on who, or what you want to believe. If you would rather take the word of information provided in a public forum over that provided in candid, private conversations then I can understand the contradiction.

Is it funny that Doug said it or that I posted what he said?

Re: I am with you Coach Clark
I recall a candid private conversation led some to believe the East Side Tower was fully funded.
As a general statement we are in the top half of funding in the SBC and you can debate the nuances if you'd like. Doug's comment in that context is accurate.

I’m saying that trusting what is said in a public forum to be 100% accurate is a dangerous proposition. There are caveats and conditions that can sway a message.

What purpose would it serve for Doug to basically say we can compete with money if it’s not true?

Usually, this would be the norm.
I find myself saying “Is it Monday yet” far too often this year when we play.

Oh I don’t know. To be positive. And I’m not specifically speaking about the actual interview. It’s an easy statement to make because there isn’t information out there publicly to refute it. You guys question everything else that folks say. So why is this treated as gospel?Mjohn1988 wrote: ↑Fri Nov 22, 2024 1:12 pmWhat purpose would it serve for Doug to basically say we can compete with money if it’s not true?

I mean we have the knight commission and/or sporticos college sports database that aggregates the forms that public institutions are required to file with the department of education, so there is some leeway for chicanery but its broadly accurate.AppSt94 wrote: ↑Fri Nov 22, 2024 1:48 pmOh I don’t know. Different states have different reporting standards so its not exactly apples to apples but its pretty close. App ranks in the upper quartile for SBC and frankly the Virginia schools reporting requirements are much different than NC. I think pound for pound the VA schools spend ~the same as App /sport. Shawn Clark is the 3rd highest paid SBC coach. He makes about $200k more than Chesney at JMU.
Doug is 100% right. Our budget is in line with our peer schools and in the upper portion of SBC schools.

Re: I am with you Coach Clark
I can read the ticket revenue and donations received by school.
This seems like a decent source, one year in arrears:

Oh and remember if we stop buying tickets and donating there are plenty of people that will. It's difficult to keep track of the anecdotal stories one has to string together to prove each debate we have versus being consistent and objective.

Re: I am with you Coach Clark
The one area we fall short of our peers is total institutional support. It's hard to compare apples to apples between states, but from what I can see, the issue is direct budgeted support from the school. Our student fees are lower than some but higher than others so somewhat of a wash.Saint3333 wrote: ↑Fri Nov 22, 2024 4:14 pmI can read the ticket revenue and donations received by school.

Chicanery is such a great word. I applaud it's proper use. This has earned a thumbs up.BallantyneApp wrote: ↑Fri Nov 22, 2024 2:13 pmI mean we have the knight commission and/or sporticos college sports database that aggregates the forms that public institutions are required to file with the department of education, so there is some leeway for chicanery but its broadly accurate.AppSt94 wrote: ↑Fri Nov 22, 2024 1:48 pmOh I don’t know. Re: I am with you Coach Clark
Haven’t been on much out of sheer disappointment this season has brought.
Can someone catch me up on the cliffs notes version of this thread? Anyone have a top 3 wish list of replacements?
