Re: Transfer Portal 2024/2025
To the original post.
1. Players develop. Heck Clifton Duck was best on a key deep ball against UT early on and turned out to be a pretty good QB. Many others struggled to get adjusted to the game early on and turned out to be stars.
2. If we truly had coaching issues, better coaches should result in better players.
To instantly say “these guys weren’t good” or “it’s time to clean house” is just wrong.
Especially not knowing the future coach, the portal is just part of the process. I hope we retain some of these guys.

Hopper getting paid worries me about Nate also getting paid. Although, he didn’t have as good of a year as we thought he would. Maybe he will stick around.

Re: Transfer Portal 2024/2025
I think you guys are overestimating how much money is pulling players away versus a higher profile program, draft showcasing, and the entire coaching staff turning over. If App was set up to compete for the SBC title next year you'd probably see fewer guys leave.

All these defensive players leaving...

I was told this by a friend up on the mountain, not sure of his source though but he is most often correct.Mjohn1988 wrote: ↑Thu Dec 05, 2024 12:18 pmNot questioning you but how do you know. I don't post what I read behind the pay wall. If I did, I would have more posts on particular candidates on the coaching issue. I am far from an "insider" and make that pretty clear. I do get some nuggets from friends up on the mountain that I occasionally share, this was one of them.ericsaid wrote: ↑Thu Dec 05, 2024 12:31 pmThey go on the 247 board, read information, come here and regurgitate to win popularity points on this board because they appear as an "insider". It's a powerplay on an otherwise meaningless hobby.Mjohn1988 wrote: ↑Thu Dec 05, 2024 12:18 pmNot questioning you but how do you know. It is same to assume that every player is in the portal. It will be up to the next Coach to keep those he can and wants. Its the new way, 1 year free agents

Re: Transfer Portal 2024/2025
NIL in general seems so secretive and slimy.
Is any of the collective stuff even public knowledge? At least for the pro teams you can go to sites like over the cap to see contract information. Generally speaking who typically represents some of these players especially the ones who aren’t necessarily superstars and are getting some money but not the huge 6 figures like those Colorado and Texas dudes? It’s like Bitcoin for me. I know it exists but I don’t understand how it all works.
Are players getting lump sums or weekly payments like the NFL guys? Are they taxed based on where they play games?

I don’t know if there is a standard but I know some get a monthly payment. Hopper will make money. I don’t think it will be six figures but it will be several times what he is getting from us. At least that’s what his agent told him.

He is good and some P4 (5)(whatever they call it now) has some $$ for him. I think he was gone even if Clark would be there next year.311neers wrote: ↑Fri Dec 06, 2024 12:22 pmhttps://x.com/chris_hummer/status/18650 ... 3hJ5cku44g

This is the first one that pissed me off. Didn’t WE pay him? Pretty sure he got NIL money from us and took the entire season off.311neers wrote: ↑Fri Dec 06, 2024 12:22 pmhttps://x.com/chris_hummer/status/18650 ... 3hJ5cku44g

His teammates voted to keep him on the team after the incident. They wouldn’t do that fo a “cancer”.J_Mountaineers wrote: ↑Sat Dec 07, 2024 11:47 amAlso on Hopper. Who cares? Get the cancer out of our locker room.
