Re: Dowell Loggains
Love coach’s energy. Definitely nervous doing his prepared speech, but once he started talking ball he shined. Love his connections. Sounds like he plans to leverage some of those connections. Extremely excited to see his staff come together.
Not sure how to explain it, his personality obviously didn't remind me of Drinkwitz in any way. However, the way he sees the game, approaches the game, and coaching seems to be on higher level similar to Drink. Just seems like he’s got a plan, and a very thought out, professional way to approach that plan.
Welcome Coach!
GO APPS!!

Re: Dowell Loggains
Seen things on here about the UNCC hire and compared to DL. Just think completely different situations. Hear me out. Koncord has nothing, no history, no culture. they got an older coach from another area to come in and lay some sort of foundation. with his tenure in Athens, clearly he can do that. 33-19 is pretty darn good in a MAC that is up and down, no clear dominate program nor cellar dwellers. Seems like a homerun for them.
Here, we have a culture and program that needs to be reignited, our floor is their ceiling at this point. We cannot afford to slip further even a bit, DG thinks this guy can take us back to where we belong, i hope he is correct and time will tell. Think he did a good job at the presser, was a bit iffy in the beginning. Lots of good contacts that could materialize into solid results. We will see, i am a bit more optimistic than i was Sat. night.

Non-sports related...North Carolina Bankers Association moved their banking school to App for the past year. Some feedback I heard is that the feedback was positive as it was the opportunity to do things outside of the actual school itself.Mjohn1988 wrote: ↑Mon Dec 09, 2024 2:37 pmLoggains mentioned Carry Collins asking about doing a QB clinic in Boone. You know sometimes we look at Boone as something we have to overcome, small out of the way town. But it struck me that we could use Boone. Boone is in a resort area. Spring and summer are more than beautiful and there are world class restaurants and resorts in the area. We could partner with some of these resorts and tell a guy like Carry Collins, hey bring your family up for a week or two and do a clinic and stay for free at Chetola or Echota. Just spitballing.
Not sure how folks that work at Coastal banks felt about the drive....but seems you would want to draw people to things in addition to the conference whether sports or something else

If there is one criticism of the yosef club/AD fundraising i'll give, is that we should use Boone and the high country to our advantage. Where are the Thelma Raleys and "The Pimp" (only OGs know) Bob Turchins? We have thousands of wealthy floridians here from May-October.Mjohn1988 wrote: ↑Mon Dec 09, 2024 2:37 pmLoggains mentioned Carry Collins asking about doing a QB clinic in Boone. Why are we not planting our flag in our biggest market, Charlotte, constantly. We have a legion of alums and dedicated fans here and 100s of thousands of neutrals who will go to Boone for almost any excuse. We should be advertising and holding events here all the time. Get these unaffiliated up the mountain. AD DG should be down here playing golf at Quail Hollow and Myers Park every month.

Re: Dowell Loggains
Well, I like what I heard. He talks about building relationships and those driving everything. Just substitute family for relationships and you kind of get the "App Family" history that's been built here. That sentiment gives rise to the TIGMA philosophy and why players play so hard for App State. It's part of the reason why we've had so many walk on successes over the years and why our players have a tradition of playing hard and never quitting.
I like it.
Let's see if he can get a good, hungry staff built around him and get us back quickly. He's going to need to get some transfer portal players and get those we have back to basics.

Re: Dowell Loggains
The presser did little to impress me, clear jitters at the beginning and an over abundance of name dropping throughout. That being said, I have let any negative feelings about hire go and moved on to fully support our coach. Hope he can re-recruit some of our portal guys and bring in some other good players form the portal. Looking forward to seeing the staff he can put together. Hoping he can turn his contacts into some high quality football coaches that have a history of winning. Everyone wants to win but not many do. He clearly came here for that opportunity to win because he knows the culture of winning is already here. Lets hope he can rebuild and continue that culture.

Re: Dowell Loggains
The Locked on SunBelt podcast guy had an interesting tidbit saying Logan’s specifically only wanted to interview for the App State job, compared to other candidates who had other options. I love this because it says he WANTS to be here. I think he even eluded to that with his statement of he could’ve made more by staying in Columbia

Taking a chance on himself. He was able to see what Drink did and what it led too...
With that said, the turnaround now may be more years than 1.

Re: Dowell Loggains
I honestly thought the whole thing was a bit weird.
But the conference did nothing to make me confident he will 100% be successful or 100% unsuccessful.
I do think he will work hard. I do think he has a lot of connections. But agree with him more than anything, was ready for it to end and start seeing actual results. Hires, recruits, etc.

I didn't care for the "uhh, I don't know, as long as they'll have me" answer to "how long do you want to be at App State?" question. That gave me pause.

Did you stop listening as soon as he said that? He went on to provide more color. Discussing the frequency of their moves, his kids were born in 3 different cities.
What do you want him to say? “As soon as I’ve won enough to get a better offer”
It was a stupid question without a good answer.

I got the feeling that everyone in that room is feeling the pressure. Cool and confident is easy when you're rolling. It's a lot harder when your seat is hot and you're stepping into the unknown.CharlotteApp05 wrote: ↑Mon Dec 09, 2024 3:55 pmI honestly thought the whole thing was a bit weird.

Re: Dowell Loggains
His statements did make me question one thing:
do NFL OCs really do that much with contract negotiations or was he overselling his experience? I didn't think coordinators handled that much, if at all.

I was sitting with a few coaches for the other sports and they all cringed when he asked that question.BallantyneApp wrote: ↑Mon Dec 09, 2024 12:47 pmit was Dave Coulson- completely expected, I wouldn't be surprised if hes one of the guys that posts on here about the "snake" Drinkwitz who ruined our fanbase by going 13-1 and then having the audacity to take 8X more money than we could offer.BambooRdApp wrote: ↑Mon Dec 09, 2024 12:41 pmAgree 100%.
Poor question from the one media guy..how long do you expect to be here....let the freaking guy meet his players and put together a staff....and find a home to rent or buy...geez
