I honestly thought the whole thing was a bit weird.
But the conference did nothing to make me confident he will 100% be successful or 100% unsuccessful.
I got the feeling that everyone in that room is feeling the pressure. Cool and confident is easy when you're rolling. It's a lot harder when your seat is hot and you're stepping into the unknown.
Totally agree. I thought both the Chancellor and Doug showed up well… I thought the media did not. They will have to adjust. Thought Adam Witten even seemed a bit nervous, but did fine.
Calling out the negotiations, which weren’t entirely true and continuing to call out the former player made it seem like he was still interviewing. I’m sure he had said those things many times over the last few days… Again not trying to be too critical, was just uncomfortable for me.

The idea that a coach "used us" while giving us our best season ever is crazy. I hope Loggains uses us too!

I could be wrong, and probably am… but based on social media activity and videos from today’s press conference, it seems like AJ Howard may be staying on staff. Would make sense with his NFL experience.
GO APPS!!

I think he is a nice and genuine guy. I also felt that way about Drink too though. You could have a had a drinking game for every time he mentioned he had NFL experience. He was selling that really hard. I think good coaches wouldn't need to sell that hard. Outside of that does he appear nice yes of course. I hope he is insanely successful. I just am nervous about this hire because he will either turn the program around or tank it. He sounded a like a sophisticated Clark. I think he very much will run a family type atmosphere in the locker room and that is needed. I think in that aspect he is a little like Jerry Moore. There are pros but man there are lots of questions. I am not ready to run through a wall just yet. Lets hope he knows his crap and hires the right people.

I believe he mentioned the NFL as a recruiting and retention tool.

So, you expect to look for a new coach next year this time too?

I think the point is we are a stepping stone for good coaches. It’s good to know who and what you are. Drink had his chance after one year and took it. Good for him. But no, I don’t think any of us really want a one and done coach. But if I told you today we would be in the 12 team playoff next year and coach would be gone would you still hire him? I sure would.

Many positives from the presser
Looking forward to seeing the staff he assembles and then also what portal additions we get over the next few weeks

I thought the the presser was good...he seemed nervous...but excited. I feel like we made a good hire. If he can surround himself with great coaches he will be fine.

No, I don't expect us to go 13-1 and be in the conversation for the playoffs (NY6) like 2019. But if we do and an SEC school offers him $4m annually (now $9m), I do expect him to take it. I'd question his sanity if he didn't.

I was sitting with a few coaches for the other sports and they all cringed when he asked that question.
Good. They need to feel uncomfortable when asked a question every once in a while. They're getting paid well to coach a sport.
I learned that as a reporter, coaches shouldn't be your friends. I was at Steve Behr's funeral and saw who and who wasn't there. At the end of the day, you're just a reporter to them. So reporters should hold powerful people accountable. Even if you sound dumb asking a question.

He mentioned that he “would have made a lot more money staying at SC, believe that”, and I do believe that. I interpret it as meaning he either
1. Accidentally slipped that he saw us as the stepping stone and it is worth the pay cut to risk it.
Or 2. Knew he would move again if he didn’t find a HC spot and as he said was blessed that this worked out for him and his family.
At his age with that big of a family and his apparent belief in Gods plan, he could very well have them and some stability and roots at the top of the list. If this evolves into reality and he is winning, we could have ourselves who we have all been wanting.

I don’t think the term “stepping stone” is close to relevant anymore since players use schools the same way now. Duke just had (for them) a great year and their quarterback still entered the Portal. I think it’s going to be extremely difficult for the better G5’s to string together big years. If we are able to land great recruiting classes is the staff compelled to playing the good younger guys to keep them happy- if they are as good as older guys? If we have a 11-2 type season (winning the Belt) that probably includes having several top performers and it also probably includes mass exodus via the Free Agent Portal. Start over again. I don’t know how much the coach is getting paid and whatever it is it’s far more than I or probably most of us will make but it’s all relative. In the coaching world a one time 11-2 G5 season equals offers that can’t be matched in Boone.
