Don't forget to vote...
...today. My ballot had only 5 offices up, but I still went in as the first voter in the precinct. Voted for 3 that I supported and "against" two candidates that I didn't.

That would have been more interesting if you had stated "Voted 3 times"JCline0429 wrote:...today. My ballot had only 5 offices up, but I still went in as the first voter in the precinct. Voted for 3 that I supported and "against" two candidates that I didn't.

Boone just voted in a mayor who's a college dropout and part-time bartender.
And it had nothing to do with that. It's all because he had a "D" beside his name.

Let me tell you a bummer. My city has a rule that only people running as a Democrat or Republican can appear on a ballot. i.e. an independent can not run unless they declare his or her self as one or the other.T-Dog wrote:Boone just voted in a mayor who's a college dropout and part-time bartender.

Re: Don't forget to vote...
A lot of those laws came into place about 100 years ago after some third-parties such as T.R Bull Moose and Debs and the Socialists started growing. Neither party really beleives in open and free elections, as both have been very much a part of keeping the duopoly in power with a few exceptions. Those exceptions have generally been in states such as NY, Minn and a few others that had just enough of a 3rd party movement that there were enough people to complain loud enough to keep the ballot access laws not as bad as some states pushed through.JCline0429 wrote:Let me tell you a bummer. To be fair he did serve two terms on town council. Lets look at the competition. A hairstylist, a college senior and a cowboy that wouldn't take off his cowboy hat at the town forum. If a legitimate candidate had come forward a D or R wouldn't matter. It was a joke of a field. Unfortunately he had the best qualifications.
Appalachian State, Better than your school since 1899!!!!

This rule only came about within the last two decades.

Re: Don't forget to vote...
I don't know the specifics of your case and what has happened the last two decades but there is a long history of ballot restrictions in this state and many others. Now with that said, it is possible to get write-in and official status in NC, it just takes a lot of work which waste resources for the campaign. If what you say is truly correct then that is a court case waiting to happen and something I would think the ALCU (your favorite organizationJCline0429 wrote:McLeansvilleAppFan wrote:A lot of those laws came into place about 100 years ago after some third-parties such as T.R Bull Moose and Debs and the Socialists started growing. A write-in is not practical. There were some write-ins but they were stragglers.

True, which is the purpose, though I use it at times to truly vote my convictions.JCline0429 wrote:A write-in is not practical. There were some write-ins but they were stragglers.

He served on a town council that made the building ordinances untenable.ASUPATCH wrote:T-Dog wrote:Boone just voted in a mayor who's a college dropout and part-time bartender.

I really hope the Town Council does the right thing and loosens the restrictions on construction. There's way too many vacant structures in town.
Considering all how Democrats won, I'd say it mattered because of the backlash against McCrory and the Board of Elections (Eggers in particular). They lost the race for the right-leaning candidates more than anything.
And yes, the college student was a better candidate than the owner of the Condeferate store.
