I’m really torn. I’m not fine with all that’s going on with college football but I’m still a fan of App State. I’m afraid it’s not going to be long before it’s no longer “college” football, if we’re not there already.
We’re already there.

Think about it, right now we have kids playing at a different school every year. Clearly, they couldn’t care less about the college aspect of it.

They can no longer call themselves a Mountaineer or a Tar Heel or a Bulldog, or whatever.

If this continues, they won’t even have to be students any longer. That lawsuit is just around the corner in my opinion.

So yeah, college athletics is no longer.
I absolutly understand and agree with your sentiments. With that said college athletics are alive and very well in DIV lll. Kids are there for the love of the sport. I have a grandchild playing a DIV lll non football sport and they have not asked us for dime one. The kids are happy and having fun. I have gone to the DIV lll nat champ in football 5-6 times and these people, players and fans have a great time.
So who’s close that I might go pull for?
Don't know where you are but there should be some place
Well that was stupid on my part, Gastonia.

Lenoir-Rhyne if you want to go that route. They still have the portal obviously and can lose players but they are perennial playoff contenders and it is still an enjoyable experience. It is pretty cheap as well.

The system needs to evolve to contracts like coaches or NFL, you sign for a 3 or 4 year period. If you want to leave, new school pays the buyout and pays player more than what you were paying. That would eliminate some of it if the buyouts are enoughto hurt so to speak. Some of the Power schools are just buying talent because they can with the war chest. At least schools that lose players...they get renumeration for time coaching and building players to get to Power level.
Personally, I would like App to consider a lower roster size so as to have more funds per player. Understand the risk with depth, however, we got to figure out ways to compete in the new world with less funds than larger schools.
You want to know what really sux. I walked on at App and it was a great experience. Limited roster size would have taken that experience from me. I hope that never happens.
I think it is fair to say that the days of the walk on as it was in the good old days is probably gone. Too many kids with stars still sitting in the portal that will get attention well before walk on kids. Times change.
If App stops having walk on players I will without a doubt stop watching college sports.

Wait until they start paying walk on’s. It’s coming.
They already do, BYU gave every walk on the equivalent amount of a scholarship. This was last year, I assume they continue to do so.

There are not many D-III schools in NC, as D-II is strong with the SAC, CIAA and Conference Carolinas, but the number has grown over the last couple of years. Methodist (Fayetteville), NC Wesleyan (Rocky Mount), Pfeiffer (Misenheimer), and Brevard (Brevard) come to mind. Pfeiffer and Brevard reclassified from D-II recently.

Others are William Peace and Meredith (Raleigh), Guilford and Greensboro, Salem (W-S) and Warren Wilson (Swannanoa) if you want to reallllllly get in touch with your hippie side.

My Mom went to Brevard so I would at least have that connection. Not giving up on App just yet but I’m going to start following Brevard.

I suppose we could all cheer for Army, Navy and Air Force. I don’t believe they can take part in NIL?

My sister in law went to Warren Wilson for a semester or two. My wife and I visited the campus while she was there and it was an eye opening experience.

Collins listed as withdrawn on 247 but not ON3
Favors listed as withdrawn on ON3 but not on 247.

Some housekeeping to do on those sites I guess.

Close to non-existent at the moment. I know they’re not having the Swannanoa Gathering next summer which is a huge thing for them

Josh Donald just opened his recruiting back up. Perhaps the Arnett hire caught his attention?
