Question - I have noticed only a few lineman from the TP and only maybe 1 in the recruiting class. Is that ai sign that the new coaching staff believes we have the lineman we need? Or, are we just not able to secure any starters of depth.
Difficult to say with the coaching change in terms of philosophy but I will offer up a thought on the high school kids. Last year’s class has 4 RS Freshmen and you have 1 RS Sophomore in Sweatt ahead of any recruit. Now while it’s unrealistic for a high school kid playing in the trenches to be game ready his first year, that’s still a lot of traffic to navigate. The possibility that you won’t start until your senior year is unappealing to some.
Feel like the OL has some good returning pieces.
Gentry Scroggs Samuel and Ramsay have all started and played a lot of snaps. Sweatt probably next up. And the 3 incoming TP OL on top of some of the HS recruits of recent years. We may be in a good spot up front.

My understanding is that Gentry is done. Samuel and Ramsey could be as well since they finish up their degrees in May.

I did not know that. I was going off the “returning roster” from TDog. Would prefer they all return if in good standing.

i was thinking the same thing but I have heard we have some good ones in that group. I also wonder if we went after some and just missed out on them. We either missed out on them or Loggains is likes that group and is going to look at HS recruiting or the second portal window to add players. I have heard that Loggains has explained a detailed plan and is executing it.
I’ve heard good things thus far.

They haven’t updated the online roster yet. I’m sure they will do it once the new Freshmen arrive today. 10 of the 11 are early enrollees.

Did not realize we had 4 RS freshman. If 2 workout, we should be going in right direction. Hope all workout...

Hope to hear from a couple of guys today or tomorrow. Our momentum is strong but time is getting tight this cycle. Competition is intense. Beating out UNLV is no small accomplishment.
The Rebs have been working hard behind the scenes, building vision, groundwork and commitment to become a legit G5 power. When P4 realignment happens, they’ll be a prime target to make like the Jeffersons.
They certainly are. There are a few others doing that as well. I never understood why UNLV was so bad at football because I looked at them as a school that is in a market where there is no excuse not to be good.
UNLV is a Basketball School.
UNC has always been one but you see the commitment they are making towards football. UNLV is in an area where they should be a good football school as well. I always felt they could do both.
UNC-Ch commitment to football just occurred 12 December 2024. Everyone is eager to see what happens. It will take a lot of the pressure off of the new football coach hires this season in North Carolina.

These are scholarship players only.

Tackles - Samuel, SR Burgess Soph Funk and Barbrey, RS Freshmen

Guards - Dewark, Marotta and Ramsey, SRs. Scroggs and William, JRs and Doege, FR

Center - Flowers, SR, Sweatt, Soph and Sowell RS Freshmen

Not sure what position that Jackson plays as he is only listed as OL.

That is true but my point is that just because you are a basketball school does not mean you can't make same commitment to football. It is all about the desire to have a good program. They don't have people telling them something can't be done like we have had.

A commitment to a winning basketball program is a heck of slot cheaper than football.

UNC has committed to one year thus far. Will the alumni pay $10 to $20 million a year for foreseeable future... time will tell

A coach tells me that every school is in the market for quality linemen. Whether be it one or a complete rebuild .That’s 130 or so programs. The competition is fierce on both sides of the ball.

A great BB confrence like the ACC tried to do both and now suck at both.

To be fair, I've heard this every year for many years. There's always fears the next generation of OLs won't be there.

UNC has wanted to be good for a long time and has made significant commitments over the years to football - Mack.v1, Butch, Blue Zone, Mack.v2 and this current phase. Will see how that plays out. Historically, there have been limited exceptions to elite football and basketball programs and certainly more difficult to sustain both.

I believe that is UNC-Ch's biggest concern is that the money that is being spent on football may take money away from basketball.

I think that is right and that will always hold them back some in football. Also, UNC, NC State, App, Duke, ECU, and Wake should be able to win battles over them due to brand name. Hopefully we do a good job in Charlotte to keep them in our rear view window.

Hearing we still have potential for a few defensive commitments. DL and LB are the targets. Time is ticking.

TRANSFER COMMIT:

https://247sports.com/player/jj-kohl-46101552/

What I do not understand is why he goes from a 4 Star at Iowa State to a 3 Star when he transfers to Appalachian.

Maybe since his dad runs a kicking school he can drop back and drop kick it through the uprights.
We just offered a 2025 kicker from Savannah who went thru the Kohl’s kicking school. Need someone to replace Hughes.

On the sunny side, App’s 2025 OL prospects look positive going into spring practice. That’s a welcome change from the past few Januarys where uncertainty around the OL lineup was a topic of frequent conversation amongst App Nation.
