Re: If Texas State leaves...
Why do we need a presence in TX or FL?
The argument will be for markets and recruiting.
Markets - G5 fans confuse location for market share
Recruiting - name the Texas recruits we’ve picked the last decade and we punch well above our weight in FL already
Get the best football and secondarily the best basketball program available that isn’t Liberty. WKU is that team.

We, as in Sun Belt,...TV contracts are based on potential eyes over time. In 2024, the fastest growing states/areaa were Texas, Florida, and the District of Columbia.

Why? Advertisers have access to much more concrete data. It’s no longer Nielsen throwing a dart at a board.
It’s espn+ and YouTube tv telling them EXACTLY how many households were watching any particular event, how long they watched, the average income etc etc.
Now and forever more actual eyeballs are worth more than potential eyeballs. This is great for a program like us and disastrous for someone like Georgia State.
The sec even said during their last expansion- they went for the best brands and didn’t consider “markets”.
What we need to add is the best brand with the most actual eyeballs in the most affluent market that will say yes. Maybe that’s wku which is smack dab between Nashville and Louisville

Ive been to Nashville quite a lot. Never seen 1 WKU fan. Their stadium holds 22,000, and looks like they are well rounded in athletics.
That's about all the digging I'm doing for now since we are dealing in rumors at this point.

And, no one really wants to see Cal/UNC or Stanford/NC State unless both teams are ranked.
The SEC and Big 10 are playing a different game then everyone else.
And fannies in seats are the reason The Rock is recognized as a Top Stadium. 11K with a view of Howard's Knob wouldn't have it on the list.
There is nothing wrong with going with your strengths and having alternative strategies, as long as you can make them work.

Re: If Texas State leaves...
My comment has nothing to do with KBS. It is a comment related to Sun Belt if Texas St. leaves. Replacing Texas St. with another team in Texas is not changing the App. St travel commitment to Texas every few years.WASU 93 wrote: ↑Sun Jan 19, 2025 1:15 pmThings tend to cycle in life. Someone mentioned WKU. Have zero clue on their GameDay fan support inside the stadium..and have zero clue on how many of their fans watch on TV. Sad to say, but those things matter to a certain degree and have to be part of the equation.

Re: If Texas State leaves...
I believe the only reason some want Western Kentucky in the Sun Belt is because they beat us in a bowl game.
The Hill Toppers left the Sun Belt for greener pastures, so I do not believe they are interested in returning and the ones who stayed when they left have no interest in their return.

Re: If Texas State leaves...
I felt like this was a reasonable topic for discussion since there has been recent buzz about it with the PAC and Mountain West. Call it spitballing if you will but it’s more relevant to this board and how it could potentially affect us than cryptocurrency or some other topics.
Hopefully the Sunbelt PTB have some sort of plan in place in case the Bobcats bolt.

If the last realignment that took place is any indication with the addition of Marshall, JMU, ODU, and USM, the Sun Belt is ready. Just think how much time it took for Oklahoma and Texas to join the SEC compared to the schools that joined the Sun Belt the last round.appfanjj wrote: ↑Sun Jan 19, 2025 7:22 pmI felt like this was a reasonable topic for discussion since there has been recent buzz about it with the PAC and Mountain West. They left for greener pastures and then the greener pastures left them and went to the American without them.AppWyo wrote: ↑Sun Jan 19, 2025 3:23 pmI believe the only reason some want Western Kentucky in the Sun Belt is because they beat us in a bowl game.

They were planning on going to the MAC (along with Middle Tennessee State) a few years ago and then hung around when CUSA acquired new members.
Their sports offered are similar to App, with the exception of Wrestling and Field Hockey. Their Football team has participated in Bowls six straight years and 11 of the last 13.
They are 4 hours from Huntington, 4.5 hours from Atlanta, 5 hours from Arkansas State and 6 hours from Boone.

Re: If Texas State leaves...
Does the term “spitballing” have a negative connotation? It didn’t in my OP, I wasn’t sure if something had been announced and I missed it b/c I don’t pay much attention to TXST unless it’s in-season football/MBB-related.appfanjj wrote: ↑Sun Jan 19, 2025 7:22 pmI felt like this was a reasonable topic for discussion since there has been recent buzz about it with the PAC and Mountain West. Thank you for posting the above travel times. I can see now why they want to go anywhere they go with Middle Tennessee State. https://www.bing.com/search?q=western%2 ... cc=0&ghpl=WASU 93 wrote: ↑Sun Jan 19, 2025 10:19 pmThey left for greener pastures and then the greener pastures left them and went to the American without them.AppWyo wrote: ↑Sun Jan 19, 2025 3:23 pmI believe the only reason some want Western Kentucky in the Sun Belt is because they beat us in a bowl game.
