We are in need of someone to take over the maintenance of the MMB. Yosef has done it for a long time, and we are grateful for all he has done, but life happens and he no longer has the time to devote to its upkeep. Re: 2025 Baseball Mega Thread
You are correct about the argument. Field umpire refused to check it. Home plate umpire told Kermit to come see him and the field umpire came at Kermit and Kermit shooed him away as he went to the plate and he got tossed. BS

Re: 2025 Baseball Mega Thread
Kermit got ousted arguing in the 2nd inning when High Point was going around the bases like a merry-go-round, that one of their runners passed/crossed the runner at 1st base…. In the replay I saw, he did not cross the runner at 1st base…. but it was close enough to argue…. if he’d did… it’s an automatic out. That said, while our pitchers as a whole, have had trouble throwing strikes and keeping the ball in play, they need to get at least a couple of weeks outside in live situations….. they will improve from where we are now. How much? Time will tell.

Re: 2025 Baseball Mega Thread
So since we have a "snow" day today, I wanted to be a stat geek. I went back to 2017 to look at pitching stats compared to the rest of the SBC. APP has never been below 5.00 ERA (except 2020 short season) The lowest team ERA they have been is 8th. The most staggering stat I saw was in '23 they were dead last and last year 2nd to last.
As of today (small sample size) They are dead last again by a margin of 3.00 ERA
What do you guys think is not working up there? I have stated my ideas but just seeing what everyone else thinks.
KS's teams can hit with anyone but can't keep bailing the pitching staff out constantly.

Re: 2025 Baseball Mega Thread
I think the staff made a purposeful decision to get better at hitting after having a top half pitching staff wasn't getting the results we needed. The past two years have been our most successful despite the poor pitching so it looks like they made the correct decision. Now we need pitching to find a middle ground between our old numbers and the current numbers to get over the hump. The problem is our resources are limited compared to our conference mates so it's a tough balance.Appmountaineers19 wrote: ↑Wed Feb 19, 2025 9:13 amSo since we have a "snow" day today, I wanted to be a stat geek. Philosophy behind pitching and recruiting might need to change. Constant pitching coach turnover probably doesn't help, and of course the weather plays a factor.Appmountaineers19 wrote: ↑Wed Feb 19, 2025 9:13 amSo since we have a "snow" day today, I wanted to be a stat geek. But, we've had stud arms before on the mountain, so that can't be an excuse.
Where is the velo? Where is the size? Haven't seen a pitcher with a "I'm better than you" mentality yet.

Silver lining...
We aren't walking or hitting as many guys as we have in the past.
But, maybe finding the plate too much hahaha.

Re: 2025 Baseball Mega Thread
I’m curious if these aggressive defensive shifts have been part of the issue. You really have to hit your spots for the shift to work. Could there be a level of aiming and not throwing to hit those spots?

Definitely a multitude of things going on. Hopefully in a couple weeks, I can look back and say I was overreacting and should’ve let the process play out.

Re: 2025 Baseball Mega Thread
I said last year that with a little better pitching , that team had a chance to make the NCAA.We had some of the best talent in the field and at the plate I have seen in Boone in decades. Maybe that was our peak ? I will admit that I had lofty expectations of building off of last season .

Queens is down 3-2 to SCAR in the bottom of the 8th. They may be a little better than I gave them credit for.

They apparently have done a better job recruiting and developing their players.

Pitching (Cross) looks good. Bats do not.
1-0 T5 in Hickory.
Need a sweep to get this turned around.

Re: 2025 Baseball Mega Thread
Cross with a very good 5.1 shutout innings today and a career high with 10 Ks, but leaves after walks put runners at 1st and 2nd and one out. Let's hope Beaty can get us out of this mess.

1 K and a flyout, still 1-0 going to the bottom of the 6th. Very nice job by Beaty.

Re: 2025 Baseball Mega Thread
Lead off has been on 3 straight innings and we haven’t gotten past 2nd base. Can we get manufacture someone over and in?
