Last year should have an asterisk. He told his players to transfer that he was leaving, then App stepped up and kept him on, but Harcum, Brown, and Mantis had already committed elsewhere. Abson and Spillers were gone either way. And Air Jordan was off to be Superman.

Re: 2025 App BB Transfers
That is exactly what I think is happening in a lot of places. People rush to blame a coach but usually it is either money or playing time these days and Conner got playing time. We did not have one single player who could return that I think played well enough to get paid except for Luke Wilson. The only reason I would say Wilson is worthy of any is the potential he flashed and that I think he could be an All-SBC player.

I think there are three. One of which red shirted due to injury. But I’m not naming names.

Re: 2025 App BB Transfers
Any extra shedding of light in these comments? App isn't a sexy place to play bball, and nobody wants to watch 50 point college basketball games. What gives, we are winning why are they leaving? I do think Kerns made the rotation way to small this year, need to let some players play middle of season to see how they do with the bright lights on. Might as well let some of the guys sit in the stands and be able to make concession runs.

Re: 2025 App BB Transfers
Everyone knows where they stand and what is expected of them.Perhaps they make decisions based on that? Today we have a couple of point guards on the team , tomorrow may be different.

Re: 2025 App BB Transfers
First time I've heard anyone say Kerns told the players he was leaving after last year. Doesn't make sense if he didn't have a signed deal to leave.NattyBumppo'sRevenge wrote: ↑Sat Mar 22, 2025 12:25 pmLast year should have an asterisk. Re: 2025 App BB Transfers
Yeah, I don’t buy that either. One of our returning veterans told me himself (at summer bball camp) that Kerns told the team he was staying a couple weeks after the season ended.JTApps1 wrote: ↑Sat Mar 22, 2025 6:37 pmFirst time I've heard anyone say Kerns told the players he was leaving after last year. He told them to transfer? I am having a hard time believing that one.NattyBumppo'sRevenge wrote: ↑Sat Mar 22, 2025 12:25 pmLast year should have an asterisk. I don’t doubt that some were advised to look for a better fit.bcoach wrote: ↑Sat Mar 22, 2025 8:20 pmHe told them to transfer? Re: 2025 App BB Transfers
Agreed. It happens. Coaches often use that wording with players and it is not something new. SEC was doing it 20-30 years ago or longer. It is just considered okay now because players can leave for a bigger program whenever so coaches are able to upgrade talent by cutting players whenever they want.AppSt94 wrote: ↑Sat Mar 22, 2025 8:48 pmI don’t doubt that some were advised to look for a better fit.bcoach wrote: ↑Sat Mar 22, 2025 8:20 pmHe told them to transfer? Re: 2025 App BB Transfers
Advising players to leave to find a better role/situation is different than telling kids to leave because he’s leaving. That’s not having the Universities best interest in mind. Hopefully not a true situation.AppStFan1 wrote: ↑Sat Mar 22, 2025 10:08 pmAgreed. It happens. Coaches often use that wording with players and it is not something new. Re: 2025 App BB Transfers
I don’t know that Kerns told players he was going to leave. If that is true that is a very immature thing to say before a contract is agreed to with another school.311neers wrote: ↑Sun Mar 23, 2025 7:17 amAdvising players to leave to find a better role/situation is different than telling kids to leave because he’s leaving. Yes, but this does not say some. It says he told "his players" to transfer.AppSt94 wrote: ↑Sat Mar 22, 2025 8:48 pmI don’t doubt that some were advised to look for a better fit.bcoach wrote: ↑Sat Mar 22, 2025 8:20 pmHe told them to transfer? Re: 2025 App BB Transfers
This "rumor" keeps popping up. I tried to squash it last time. Any insider on here will tell you he never said it. However, my belief is that some players may have misinterpreted what he was actually saying and shared that perspective with folks....Which was something to the effect of you go do what is best for you because I am doing the best for me. Essentially saying he was going to leverage his success to maximize his contract extension and he couldn't blame players for taking the money either.

Re: 2025 App BB Transfers
I fully believe our coaches advise the players to do what is in their best interests and try to help them figure out what that is. I also believe they paint a realistic picture of where each guy stands in relation to playing time and money possibilities , whether they stay or leave. I have never had a player tell me anything different.
