Re: Happy Opening Day!
Watched my annual pre-opening day movie last night...The Sandlot.
Sounds and smells of Summer, kids playing ball, no school, pool parties, ballpark food, cracks of the bat, the sound of the mitt.
What are some of your favorite baseball related sounds? (Can't use crack of the bat or pop of the mitt).
I'll start...
"Hot dogs! Cold Beer!!!"
Something about the vendors that roam the stands and concourse sends a chill down my spine.
It's here! America's Pastime

Re: Happy Opening Day!
Has to be the sound of the announcer echoing across the field and bouncing back. "Stepping, up to the plate, plate, plate..."

I watch Major League to start the season. It hits different this year without Mr. Baseball.311neers wrote: ↑Thu Mar 27, 2025 8:48 amWatched my annual pre-opening day movie last night...The Sandlot.

I have an 8 month old and we put a little pennant in his nursery with a quote from the movie.
“Remember kid, there’s heroes and there’s legends. Heroes get remembered, but legends never die.”

Re: Happy Opening Day!
I already know the story I think...Phils will make the playoffs. Bats will go cold because it's only long ball or K. They lose in the wildcard or NLCS. Next year rebuilding

Re: Happy Opening Day!
I watched Bull Durham last night for the same reason. The director wrote a book about making the movie and said the music and dress choices were intentional when they are in the ballpark because inside the park is "timeless" and can't be dated.311neers wrote: ↑Thu Mar 27, 2025 8:48 amWatched my annual pre-opening day movie last night...The Sandlot.

I love the organ in the few stadiums that still employ a true organist. I also just love the general hum of the crowd during like the 6th inning between pitches, when there aren't any other sounds or important things to pay attention to.

I now have to go watch Buttermaker and his band of misfits dominate the little league circuit. (1970’s version)

Re: Happy Opening Day!
Organ is a great one. General crowd noise too.
How about the sound of metal spikes walking on pavement, concrete?
Plenty of tournaments and high school games where that noise is rampant!

I got hammered in that bar “Mitch’s”, Easter weekend, 1992. Went to high school with our waitress and she kept the beer flowing.MrCraig wrote: ↑Thu Mar 27, 2025 9:23 amI watched Bull Durham last night for the same reason. I didn't know that bar was still open until recently. Now it's on my to-do list next time I visit my brother in Raleigh.AppSt94 wrote: ↑Thu Mar 27, 2025 9:55 amI got hammered in that bar “Mitch’s”, Easter weekend, 1992. Re: Happy Opening Day!
Anyone got any ballpark trips planned for this year?
I've been to the Padres, Nationals (3x), Red Sox and Mets with my family in recent years. Summer travel plans still TBD this year, but would love to visit 1-2 stadiums.

Find you a 3 day trip to hit Cincy, Cleveland, & Pittsburgh. It's a very doable drive. My son & I did it 2 summers ago.EastHallApp wrote: ↑Thu Mar 27, 2025 12:44 pmAnyone got any ballpark trips planned for this year?

Super jealous. That's going to be epic! Can't wait to see how that one plays out logistically speaking.BambooRdApp wrote: ↑Thu Mar 27, 2025 12:48 pmGot tickets for Reds/Braves in BristolEastHallApp wrote: ↑Thu Mar 27, 2025 12:44 pmAnyone got any ballpark trips planned for this year?
