This would be awesome, but I’m afraid this is an April Fools joke from a fake account.

Obviously fake/April Fool's, but for those interested, my understanding is that any Dundon-led bid would likely build a downtown stadium rather than one in the Carter-Finley/Lenovo area. A little surprising to me, given how much he's putting into developing that area.

I’d think that the Orioles and Braves would have something to say about them relocating into their markets. Possibly the Reds as well.

Nationals as well. It would be interesting to see how the markets would be redrawn on the east coast.

Charlotte vs Atlanta would be a fun rivalry.
Hopefully they built Knights park with capable expansion in mind.

Would be completely absurd if they were allowed to stand in the way.
Raleigh isn't even in the Braves TV market anymore, BTW. Nationals are actually the closest team. Orioles are also blacked out here. Which is also ridiculous, but that's another discussion.

I seem to recall that it was built for expansion.

I thought it was too. Plenty of room in left field.
This article from ESPN says otherwise.

I like the name though...Charlotte Aviators. Paying homage to first in flight and the always under construction airport...

A new park would be built if MLB came to Charlotte.

The good thing is a precedent has been set to play a couple seasons in a minor league park.

Problem is, the current AAA stadium is probably where the MLB stadium would have to go Uptown. Not sure of any parcels big enough in Uptown.
Maybe you re-develop the Brookhill Neighborhood in Southend (Remount/I77) with the stadium, mixed-use retail, multi-family (affordable component), parking, light rail access, access to 77.
That would be a feat.
Maybe scrape Memorial Stadium and re-do that for baseball?

Someone posted on the First that pro football was coming to Charlotte. I’ll believe it when I see it.

Re: Rays potentially moving to raleigh/carter Finley complex
Looking at it on Google Earth from my Holliday Inn Express room, the park is probably expandable to 35,000, but it would have to be built out over the buildings on the first base line, and Graham Street would probably have to be tunneled along the third base side (perhaps the same with Mint St. Probably not enough juice for the squeeze. But the view of the skyline, which is IMO the second best view in baseball next to Pittsburgh, man, I’d love to keep that.311neers wrote: ↑Fri Apr 04, 2025 8:12 amProblem is, the current AAA stadium is probably where the MLB stadium would have to go Uptown. Forgive me if I’m saying the same thing as I’m not quite sure what neighborhoods or areas are what, but is there enough room in the area known an “The Bowl”?311neers wrote: ↑Fri Apr 04, 2025 8:12 amProblem is, the current AAA stadium is probably where the MLB stadium would have to go Uptown. Re: Rays potentially moving to raleigh/carter Finley complex
There probably was enough room a couple of years ago, maybe not anymore as it's picked up a lot of development traction. You're absolutely correct though, The Bowl in Ballantyne could have been Charlottes version of the Braves "Battery area". I'm not so sure Charlotte would want another "suburban" sporting venue though, seems like gov't officials and politicians want everything in dense uptown/southend areas, the MLB might want this as well...access to public transport/lightrail. They've gotten rid of Knights Castle in Fort Mill and The Hive off Tyvola. The Hive was perfect! Or maybe I enjoyed it because we were actually good in the 90's/2000's and didn't know any different. A simpler time in the 90s.AppSt94 wrote: ↑Fri Apr 04, 2025 8:40 amForgive me if I’m saying the same thing as I’m not quite sure what neighborhoods or areas are what, but is there enough room in the area known an “The Bowl”?311neers wrote: ↑Fri Apr 04, 2025 8:12 amProblem is, the current AAA stadium is probably where the MLB stadium would have to go Uptown.
