The more that comes out from coaches and administrators I'm starting to think college is going to look like some hybrid of pro baseball and pro soccer in terms of league salary caps, transfers, buyouts etc. The g5 would truly be a minor league for the p3. Buy outs would go down depending on how many years of eligibility a player has left. Teams could buy the rights to players for them to transfer like pro soccer. Players from p3 benches could be sent to g5 teams on loans for a season of development before returning to their home team the next season like soccer.

Honestly I think it's still wide open what this may look like in 10 years, but I could see it going in that direction. No academics don't matter. That has been made clear.
I wonder how many fans are going to tolerate a "college" sports world that looks like that, and how many are going to bail over the next 5-10 years?
I can only speak for myself, but I came close to not renewing my season tickets because of this mess.

Truth is, only the fans rejecting it can save it.

Calling it college football at this point is just inaccurate.

Glad I was able to experience the game before it was dismantled.
Same here. I actually think the best thing to happen would be if fans completely boycott and give these players a dose of humility. They don't make anything without us but sadly too many people won't reject this mess so it will either be a slow death that lasts decades or we have to hope that a sustainable, fair system is put in place because this one is not.
We had a fair sustainable system and it was done away with.

It wasn't fair really, but it was sustained under the guise of being fair and marketed brilliantly to convince people that it was.

I don't see the youth falling away from college football. They live life 7 Seconds at a time. Everything is a highlight reel. So you have new players every year, I doubt that will bother them much. If the youth supports it then it won't matter what the old guard of fans think.

Indeed we did but NCAA blew it ruling with an iron fist and eventually was taken to court.

Not sure why it was not fair.
Problem with that is the old guard pays the bills.

The problem as I see it was and is due to extremes- pretty much the same as life and our society in general. Problems and issues dictated by what I like to call the 5 percenters. That number is purely subjective but I tend to believe that societal problems are caused by 5 percent of the population. Most college sports was good as 95% (or so) of athletes followed the rules, enjoyed playing, relished the free education and competed for the love of their sport and most for their schools. They had pride and nearly all never got paid especially after their 4/5 years in college. The 5 percenters were never happy or satisfied and either demanded to be paid (under the table) or by some means. That group who came and went, while also generally the most talented also believed they “deserved” more than the scholarship and extra perks. The system had many flaws but we all know that by and large it was fine. It wasn’t perfect and many stupid NCAA rulings like punishing a coach or program for buying a player dinner were ridiculous. Instead of a happy medium everything once again went extreme- this time an uncontrolled pay for play that has created a massive divide between regular schools like App and powerful endless money schools. Once we reached the point of power schools being able to pay good (not great) athletes 6 figures to essentially sit the bench or stand on the sidelines it was over. Without the presence of a real governing body it will only get worse. No school like App State will be able to compete with $20m salary cap structures. Most here have said hell no to being relegated to a glorified FCS but is that the harsh reality?

I guess I’d say that there will be times it “feels” like it. Just like there will always be structural differences between us and the Ohio States of the world, there are structural differences between us and the FCS. This is our place. Will we ever win a National Championship in football…. a resounding nope. Could we ever make to the playoffs as they currently exist, I’d say a resounding yes! Could an FCS team ever make the playoffs…. No they could not. This is our place.

I would say that is not the case at all, but who knows.

How this shakes out will be interesting. A player holding out of practice while they negotiate his contract.

I agree with this theory, however another perspective is the general sports fan will enjoy the NIL era, the ones that don't have true ties to a program, whose connection is only the product they receive on TV.

So perhaps in one aspect App fans and similar programs are the minority that is impacted. This rationalization does not make me happier though.

Interesting take/survey from coaches on what player salaries are going to land in.

I’m having a hard time understanding this. He can’t really have a contract with the university. NIL money should only come from private sources. UT needs to grow a pair and tell this guy to take a hike. And if they don’t they should be investigated for being involved in pay for play. I know it coming but it’s not there yet.

These guys already have what are being called NIL agents. These agents are charging upwards of 20% of what a student makes on NIL. I think we will see more pro sports shenanigans like this as These agents try to get more money for their clinlents for a better cut. There is nothing to investigate. This is all pay for ay now.

They did and good for them. It will be interesting to see if he transfers to UCLA. They got the money and he is an upgrade over Joey.

Apparently the Oregon coach called up TN and told them Nico was fishing around for better deals behind TN back. Since this is free agency by a different name, they just need to adopt pro rules and move on.

Some advocates for a new organization of like minded institutions, no pay to play . NIL not apart of the school , up to the individual athlete. Strict academic standards. Scholarships and capped cost of attendance only. Does it have legs ?
