Funny you say this. Most of these guys leaving were called “studs” when they first got here.

Not sure if this is for me or not but I think some***, not most of these were good players. Some of these were never going to play. I mean Sowell was like 250lbs.
And Baret was a late add. Estep. Lenhart, Barbrey...etc.

I still think Gooch Farrar McKinnis and Haynes were good linebackers but injuries got to them. And Nick Taylor. The rest never got a chance or weren't good. Or was it lack of development from coaching?

Why should the program and university commit 2-3 more years to people who will never see the field? This isn’t a charity.

I can guarantee you that if some of these guys had shown something on the field, they would still be on the roster. Sometimes you can’t fit a square peg through a round hole. Instead of molding the peg for 3 additional seasons hoping it will fit, it can be better to replace it.

Don't feel bad for Joey. He is going to make 1M to sit on bench, if he stays at UCLA and that is 1M more than he would have made had he pursued the NFL.

2. Unless he did not have a signed deal he is getting one million dollars to play football close to home. When you transfer early the risk taken is that a team could still go after someone after spring ball. The fact they felt the need to go after Nico tells me they were not happy with Joey.

“Well…Bye,” doesn’t apply in Joey’s case. He fulfilled his commitment (not the best word, but Im going with it) and was gifted another year of eligibility. He chose, with a diploma from Appalachian State in hand, to use his extra year close to his home. I will follow him like anyone else who has graduated from Appalachian State. He IS a Mountaineer.

A player who waxes poetic about his experience as a sophomore and then follows it up with, “with that being said,” they get the Curly Bill response.

This is a thread about roster and staff updates and not about other school athletics. Someone should have started a thread on former app players or portal news in the other school athletics forum.

Granted I know some of these guys are being pushed out, so I don't necessarily have a gripe with them. But they're putting out these statements literally in branded graphic templates that presumably were created by App. And considering the text in those templates pretty much all follows the same structure - God, coaches, teammates, "With that being said" - I'm guessing App provided them with at least a draft template of the announcement itself.

It's all just so absurd.

I do understand that. I wish him luck and I might check to see how he did at the end of the year but the only QBs I am invested emotionally in are ours in Boone.

I only said it because someone else mentioned Nico. I probably should have posted in other athletics forum. I just did not want to delve into a Joey thread since this is meant to be for our roster and staff.
