I know they are in NC but they don't have a big brand name, they don't travel well, and this should be a blowout win for us every time. We really don't need to play them but if we are going to we better only play them in Boone and beat them by 40+ every time.

They (UNC) do NOT think of us this way. I am NOT a fan of UNC but, like most of us, have friends who are UNC alumni. Several are well connected major donors.
They are damn glad we are not on their future schedules. They do not see us as a guaranteed win and were agreeable to playing in Boone.
All three of those games were big games for the schools, fans, and the state of NC.

It makes more sense to play an in state FCS than the one we are playing this upcoming season.

It makes more sense than Lindenwood but we need more marquee games against G5 schools and some P4 opponents more than playing WCU. I just hope we don't lose to WCU because if we do I will be the first one to come on here and ask if it was worth it and better than playing Oregon State or Boise State. We have beat WCU dozens of times and nobody outside of the schools cared but we beat Michigan once and it is one of the most famous games in college football history.

I agree on sentiment but vis a vis unc football: App has a big brand, App travels well, and unc isn’t supposed to blow us out (and recent matchups bear that out).

So, Linwood is what we want in KBS or whatever the team is called... Campbell, Savannah State, Gardner Webb

I really don't want Lindenwood or those others either. I would much rather have G5 schools come to Boone and we go to them. We need schools who can actually help fill the stadium more and benefit financially. There is not a single FCS school who can help with that. When it comes to UNC at least we could help fill BOA Stadium but if we played WCU in BOA they would maybe bring 2,000 fans max.

No one is talking about playing anyone in boa stadium. All teams play Patsy's on their schedule (or what they think are lesser teams ) earlier in the season to help gel in live situations. Given nil and virtually having a new team every year, having one game early in September with a Patsy is actually a good idea. For KBS, schedule Parents weekend for that game. You will never have an issue with a sell-out as all freshman moms are missing their babies.
Although we have a good program historically and hope we do going forward, we probably should play as FCS team for reasons noted above. If Michigan, Texas A&M (and, yes, they thought we were a Patsy before the game), we would not have the stories and brand we have today.

I was just saying that playing in BOA would be stupid. Don't ever see that happening. There are a few people on the WCU board excited about this but many don't see a reason in playing the game. It is like one person wrote who said people who want this are thinking with their hearts rather than their heads. This rivalry was dead and no reason to revive it.

FBS programs don’t travel to FCS programs, this is a poor analogy. We aren’t traveling to the Whee in football. Sounds like some bad intel, probably traveling there in basketball and other sports.

How are there still enough people who don't get this that we still keep having the discussion in 2025?

Any FCS game we schedule has been, is and will be a buy game. That is, KBS only.

Before we all get too cocky let’s remember that WCU gave NCSU a pretty good game last year. And also that an in state ACC played them. We are 1 and 3 over the last few years against ACC teams. And boy was the last one something I want to forget.

Agree 100%. The old mountain jug no longer exists other than in a few people's minds. This is now just another FCS team coming in for a payday. Respect them (as we should) like any other opponent but as far as a rivalry game goes it is not. Nice FCS opponent that makes sense though.

The whole "living rent free" thing is way overused, but I truly don't think about Western at all. Why would App care if they refused to play in Boone? We'd just schedule Lindenwood or whoever and it would make no difference.
