Very interesting, the above ESPN bottom 10 has Southern Miss listed yet the previous other prediction has them beating App, yet we are not in the bottom 10. Somebody has something wrong.BUTCH1991 wrote: ↑Fri Aug 15, 2025 7:40 amPreseason Bottom 10 https://www.espn.com/college-football/s ... -bottom-10

An ESPN writer didn't do their homework on a non-P4 school?...Wow!!!....thats never happened ever before!!AtlAppMan wrote: ↑Fri Aug 15, 2025 8:20 amVery interesting, the above ESPN bottom 10 has Southern Miss listed yet the previous other prediction has them beating App, yet we are not in the bottom 10. This illustrates what everybody on this board have been saying, there are so many unknowns this year that predictions are not much more than throwing darts at the wall.kornegaylw wrote: ↑Fri Aug 15, 2025 8:34 amAn ESPN writer didn't do their homework on a non-P4 school?...Wow!!!....thats never happened ever before!!AtlAppMan wrote: ↑Fri Aug 15, 2025 8:20 amVery interesting, the above ESPN bottom 10 has Southern Miss listed yet the previous other prediction has them beating App, yet we are not in the bottom 10. Re: Preseason Projections
It is a given that not much research was done by ESPN bottom 10 writer...IMO, USM is on the bottom 10 given the one win last year...and of course the writer could wrap in Brett Favre...as lately he gets headlines for the wrong reasonsAtlAppMan wrote: ↑Fri Aug 15, 2025 9:09 amThis illustrates what everybody on this board have been saying, there are so many unknowns this year that predictions are not much more than throwing darts at the wall.kornegaylw wrote: ↑Fri Aug 15, 2025 8:34 amAn ESPN writer didn't do their homework on a non-P4 school?...Wow!!!....thats never happened ever before!!AtlAppMan wrote: ↑Fri Aug 15, 2025 8:20 amVery interesting, the above ESPN bottom 10 has Southern Miss listed yet the previous other prediction has them beating App, yet we are not in the bottom 10. Re: Preseason Projections
That bottom 10 is more about trying to be funny rather than really analytical about teams. It’s always been that way. I’ve been of the opinion that little to no analysis is done on any team outside of the usual 20 or so who vie for the championship. We have too many folks here getting butt hurt over half ass analysis. I ask again, how on earth can anyone make a realistic prediction about a team who has turned over a third or more of their roster? If some 5 star QB who actually played at a P4 decides to come to Boone then maybe we have something but when 20 dudes who barely played transfer in nobody knows.

20 dudes and the whole coaching staff. It's not many steps above a pick-up game at the park.Bigdaddyg1 wrote: ↑Fri Aug 15, 2025 9:44 amThat bottom 10 is more about trying to be funny rather than really analytical about teams. Re: Preseason Projections
In fairness, that is the crux of situation, when everybody is new, even HC is new to head coaching there is no historical barometer to measure against. I think we have high upside but that is pure speculation as to whether we deliver on that or not. I think we have upgraded our coaching staff which is a plus. The fact we replaced many players from a team that had awful defense last year may be good but we don't know until they hit the field against a real opponent.mike87 wrote: ↑Fri Aug 15, 2025 9:52 am20 dudes and the whole coaching staff. Re: Preseason Projections
Agreed here. I like the strategy of Loggains in this off-season but the staff has to put players in the best position to succeed and they have to have been correct in their evaluations of their ability as well.AtlAppMan wrote: ↑Fri Aug 15, 2025 11:28 amIn fairness, that is the crux of situation, when everybody is new, even HC is new to head coaching there is no historical barometer to measure against. Re: Preseason Projections
Of the 54 players that transfered to USM 21 came from Marshall. Of those 21 12 are defensive players. Of those 12 players 5 were significant contributors last year...
Huff also brought his QB, Braylon Braxton, with him who will likely be the starter and his 2nd, 3rd & 4th favorite WR targets
For coaching Huff brought his Cheif of Staff, DC, WR & RB coach...and his OC is Blake Anderson (former Ark St HC)
I'd consider this a more than decent core to build from and not a team in the Bottom 10....but I'm just a guy who's watched football his whole life and not an esteemed ESPN sports journalit so what do I know...

If we come out with "everyone go long" as the opening play, we will know.AtlAppMan wrote: ↑Fri Aug 15, 2025 11:28 amIn fairness, that is the crux of situation, when everybody is new, even HC is new to head coaching there is no historical barometer to measure against. I agree with you. I fully expect Southern Miss to be in the top 2 in the west.kornegaylw wrote: ↑Fri Aug 15, 2025 11:50 amOf the 54 players that transfered to USM 21 came from Marshall. Of those 21 12 are defensive players. Of those 12 players 5 were significant contributors last year...

Re: Preseason Projections
Anyone catch the App State-related stuff in the Netflix SEC series? DLO was seen during one of the Gamecock segments. And of course, footage of App’s win at A&M.
