Little things can be fine tuned about FanFest to make it great.

-Signage saying what teams/coaches are where.
-Moving it up to 11 a.m. or Noon to avoid the hottest time of the day on a turf field in August.
-Having the surplus sale two hours before FanFest. Most the crowd was in line for the surplus sale while the student athletes twiddled their thumbs.
-Have the marching band there. They were practicing at the Hayes Center while FanFest happened and afterward practiced in the stadium (Dowell spoke to them)
-Yosef Club table near the entrance.
-Have concessions on the field. They only had them at the Gran N Go. I got something, went out, sat in a seat to drink my water and not one minutes later a security told me the stadium seats were closed and I had to move.
-Longer than 90 minutes. It feels like they just wanted people in and out so they wouldn't have to pay security guards as much.

Having FanFest during move-in weekend was interesting as it made parking difficult.

All the things you said there are things I would have expected to change but I am not shocked, sadly. I went to watch the practice from a hill for the last bit in the AM but did not want to stand out in the heat for autographs.

I don’t complain or gripe about our athletic department like a lot on here do…

but..

It blows my mind that there was not a desk right at the entrance today to sign people up for the Yosef Club. What a missed opportunity.

I was trying to sign my 1 year old up for the Junior Mountaineer Kids Club, walked around the entire field looking for a table…nothing. Seems like an event geared towards families and kids would at least have a table for JMKC.

Tons of new families on the mountain, a great opportunity to grow these groups. We should be making it as easy as possible.

Anyways, fired up for the season. GO APPS!!
The reason many of us complain about ASU Athletics (me included) is because issues like the one you pointed out
  • Are low-hanging fruit and
  • Have been going on for years
Having spring scrimmage and Fanfest events are a super ways to generate excitement and entice fans to donate. Isn’t that the primary objective? Not having signup/donation tables around the property is a massive miss.

And just in case anyone responds that the department is understaffed and they can’t do everything: there are thousands of alumni within an hours drive that would love to volunteer and do grunt work…like manning a YC/JMKC table (again, me included).

How difficult is it to run a $50 background check on a volunteer and give them an hours training on stuffing envelopes, running a Stripe reader, etc.?

You are speaking to the choir. It feels like we have people in the athletics department who just want to have excuses for not getting things done. Lack of money is their excuse now but if you give them the money they would come up with another excuse. There are many people who would volunteer to help for the day.

Don’t we have or used to have a YCAB? Seems like that’s something that they should spearhead.

There should be YC staff onsite for events like this along with every football game trying to sign fans and students up. I'd have instant seat upgrades available or merch/concession discounts available on game day.
