Re: The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly
I think that making a statement that Charlotte is one of the worst teams in the country really sells App short. Is there a remote possibility that they are not that bad and we are potentially pretty good and made them look bad? Grading like this is fine and of course every position group in every game gets scrutinized but based on the complete overhaul from coach to kicker any overreactions either way is a bit crazy.

Re: The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly
UNCC is without a doubt one of the worst programs in the last decade and was objectively coached by a clown last season. They are a bottom 25 FBS team maybe worse.
But we beat them like normal App teams beat bottom quartile teams and our fanbase got to feel what’s it’s like to have a comfortable win again. That is very positive.

But not so great a season that he’s picked off by a bigger SEC or B1G team.t4pizza wrote: ↑Sun Aug 31, 2025 1:34 pmI figured as much that's why I am rooting for Arkansas to have a great year so their coach doesn't get fired. I had no idea of what to expect, but all of the coaching experience that we were told about matters.
It's early but our coach may not be around long in the single A league.

All great points! Here are a few others that I noticed:
Good:
Good:
- Creative/imaginative play calling
- Capable RB receiving out of the backfield
- Two TEs who are solid blockers & capable possession receivers
- App’s blitz packages weren’t effective in creating pressure than the standard front-four look (this can be fixed)
- Sun Belt officiating...but y’all already knew that

Point is, I don’t think we know what any G5 team has right now.BeauFoster wrote: ↑Sun Aug 31, 2025 10:00 amEither we have exceptional o and d lines, or UNCC has terrible lines. The game was won in the trenches, and the niners couldn’t cut it on either side.
I’m guessing we’re above average and they were/are below. Not sure they’re the worst, but they’re certainly in the lower third

Re: The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly
I really do not think anyone knows what they have right now. One point I would like to make is this Appalachian and Charlotte both got a total makeover from what they had at the end of the season. App is used to winning and Charlotte is not used to winning. These are totally new teams in every respect. I just believe that we got the kind of coach that is ready for the new era of college football and Charlotte got the kind of coach that is a proven winner.Mjohn1988 wrote: ↑Sun Aug 31, 2025 7:42 pmPoint is, I don’t think we know what any G5 team has right now.BeauFoster wrote: ↑Sun Aug 31, 2025 10:00 amEither we have exceptional o and d lines, or UNCC has terrible lines. I would not be surprised at all if Charlotte wins the rest of their games. We have a coach that I believe is the future of college football. Depending on what happens tonight, with the Bill Belichick Model, I believe we glimpsed what the future of college football will be.
Basically, we have the same model in Boone that Chapel Hill has without the drama.

UNCC is not winning the rest of their games. They got the Heels next weekend...and UNCC is no Dolly Madison

Re: The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly
I ultimately agree UNCC looked awful and outmatched everywhere. Reason I was so nervous for that game is because Albin had demonstrated an ability to assemble a roster in an offseason and turn it into a winner. He obviously always had his work cut out for him at Charlotte and needs time, but I was shocked at how unprepared they looked. I would have thought they could get similar players in the portal as us but they just didn’t seem to be the case. Even if they are completely awful we should have won that game by more. If Barnes doesn’t have that fluke fumble and they don’t call that unfair targeting we win that game by 40+

Re: The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly
Not a category in this, but the “Great” to me is how Loggains has spoke after the win. Glad to be 1-0 but a desire to be more dominant. Another stark contrast from the last 5 years where it was a relief to win.

Albin was with Solich for like a decade building up the program and then took over. They had not had a losing record for 12 years before Albin took over.diehardapp18 wrote: ↑Mon Sep 01, 2025 2:37 pmI ultimately agree UNCC looked awful and outmatched everywhere. Totally different situation at uncc than Ohio.
I still think Albin is a good hire for them but this is a multi year thing

Re: The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly
He was only the HC for 3 years at Ohio..They won the MAC. Was it primarily Solich influence given his pedigree that was getting recruits versus Albin? Was 24 MAC championship more Solich recruits or Albin recruits? Who knows. Time will tell if a good recruiter and HC in 3;to 4 years.BallantyneApp wrote: ↑Mon Sep 01, 2025 4:58 pmAlbin was with Solich for like a decade building up the program and then took over. Re: The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly
Not a rhetorical question…but in this day and age, is it realistic anymore to believe a HC will have the luxury of 3,4,5 years to turn a program around?BambooRdApp wrote: ↑Mon Sep 01, 2025 5:40 pmHe was only the HC for 3 years at Ohio..They won the MAC. Re: The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly
Absolutely true, Solich turned Ohio into a super consistent G5 and one of the most respectable in the country. But even when he left Albin still had the job of basically replacing the team every offseason and demonstrated he could do it.BambooRdApp wrote: ↑Mon Sep 01, 2025 5:40 pmHe was only the HC for 3 years at Ohio..They won the MAC. It’s only been one game but yeah if I’m a Charlotte fan and this doesn’t work I just don’t know. They tried the young offensive guru in Healey, they took a shot on a wild card in Biff, and now have corrected by making what everyone calls a safe, smart hire. If a guy like Albin can’t make it work there (and I mean like consistent 7-8 win team) they have to start wondering if it’s ever gonna work out for them.

I hear we have a new coach. Can we praise him without continually denigrating the previous one. It was time for a change, the change was made, we like what we got in the new guy, let's judge him on his merits. So far, really good.

We make references to Coach Moore, Satt, Drink still. I see people making observations about differences on and off the field. Let’s try and not be so sensitive.
