Joey on gameday next week.
Dawgs @ Vols.
Very excited to see how he does in a big time SEC game. I assume it’ll be the 7:30 game so I won’t be watching since we start at 7 but will keep up with it.

3:30pm slot. Prime time. I miss SEC CBS but ABC will do.

G5 Billy might be gone in the morning. That schedule does not get any easier…

Without Billy there is no "Miracle On The Mountain"

In his defense, I think USF is pretty good. USF gets Miami this week and we'll see how that goes in a transitive manner. They could be one of the surprise teams this year.

If USF somehow beats Miami, they are the frontrunner early in the season to be the Group representative.

None of their early season success will mean a thing if they don’t win the conference.

And that’s what stinks. I’d much rather see a 11-1 USF with some big time wins than a 4 loss ACC school in the playoff that beat Duke Wake Cuse BC and whatever other cupcakes were on the schedule. With USF’s OOC I feel like they could still be in play for a spot with a loss or two.

I saw Shrader is starting for them. Good for him.

I watched a lot of it while at Peppers last night since I wanted to see how they looked comparatively and my daughter was watching so I was going to be sure to tell her if they looked bad.

I think they already are and probably still #1 even with a loss to Miami

Things can change but they look really good and could breeze through their conference. If they run the table they are a top 10 team.

They should already be a top 10 team. I beleive that they are the only team to beat two top 25 teams this year thus far.

I think USF stays within the big spread, I don't think there is a lot of difference in UF and Miami, will be pulling for the percieved upset.

And hope Aguilar has a nice game and can pull that upset too.

I don’t disagree but Josh Pate made a statement about this yesterday and I tend to agree with him. He used Alabama but I think it works for any P4 team, he said “If an Alabama had the same early season resume, they would be #1.” Agree or disagree, his argument is valid to the bias and grace that P2 or P4 schools get.

Rooting hard for Joey. Went to the Tenn game in Atlanta and going to the UAB game next week.

its a flaw in ALL ranking systems, particularly the human ones but also the computer ones.

The AP poll is not about ranking the best teams, its about providing the TV networks the best marketing materials for their games. The writers have been pretty consistent they start with their top 25 and then move up/down based on that.

The CFP ranking is better as it doesn't begin until halfway thru the conference season. The coaches poll is pretty worthless IMO and should only be for in conference rankings.

Computer rankings suffer from similar bias. They don't have enough cross reference points early in the season so everything is heavily weighted towards last year. USF was 7-6 and needed 5 OT to beat san jose state in the whatever bowl.

Your point is strong. Take Notre Dame: a name-brand program with a large national audience and an exclusive contract with NBC. They enjoyed high rankings for years, but were routinely smoked by strong opponents and rarely played well in bowl games/CFP appearances. Last year was an exception, and now that team/staff is now earning those high rankings.
