I’d rather fold the team than win 4-5 games / season going forward.

I see it a different way. In a league of our peers we should have plenty of money to compete. It isn't like we are playing the SEC or ACC each week. We are playing very similar budgeted schools. It isn't all money.BeauFoster wrote: ↑Sat Sep 13, 2025 9:30 pmYou’re unfortunately correct. We don’t have the resources to compete in this world. I’m baffled by you guys who simply throw out the blanket excuse of us not paying enough money. I’ve got a news flash for you. For an incredibly huge percentage of fans it’s not that important. So the sure fire way to get us to what, 9-3 and the Camden Bowl is to magically uncover $20m more in stupid money? I’ll say this again, look at the AP Top 25 Monday and unless USF somehow gets a few votes it’s all going to be power schools. Please point out the great G5 who has big money being spent. Reality is quickly sinking in guys.

Re: So Miss discussion
But we don’t have the money to compete. Every season there’s a couple of conference mates who splash out the cash to make a move. We have a very small amount of boosters who can make big “purchases” and because of our location, we don’t have the big business money available to buy players year in and out. It’s the reality that none of us want to accept, but know is true. I think that’s why so many are against it, because we know we really aren’t going to be able to be the dominant program we were for a decade and a half.AppDub wrote: ↑Sat Sep 13, 2025 9:32 pmI see it a different way. I don’t think another million would prevent interceptions or fumbles into the end zone.AppDub wrote: ↑Sat Sep 13, 2025 9:32 pmI see it a different way. Making millions?BeauFoster wrote: ↑Sat Sep 13, 2025 9:26 pmI didn’t make the rules. We have to play by them if we want to be competitive. To be fair, the cabinet was left completely bare. And we don’t have the money to buy an o-line because our fans are cheap as hell
It shouldn't be about who can pay the most. Money should not buy wins. You're lost.
If I’m part of delivering a product that is generating hundreds of millions (probably billions) of dollars, I want my nut. Sure, and education is part of my compensation, but that’s not going to cut it when schools are making millions of my performance. I don’t blame athletes at all for getting paid.

You play to the league you're in. We look at those in the sunbelt and spend what they are or more. We don't try to spend what ND or Alabama is. We aren't them. I truly thought we were going to be mediocre to bad this year. After UNCC I thought that maybe I was wrong and we were going to be back. I'm ok with giving Coach Dlo the slack that was given to Clark. At least he is engaged and trying his hardest. First time head coach. It'll click eventually.

This is a completely non-smartass answer. We drop to D3. That’s where “true amateur athletics” still exists, and that’s what some of our fans want. Give em a merit scholarship, and let em play for the love of the game!yosef69 wrote: ↑Sat Sep 13, 2025 9:31 pmHonest question. Otherwise, we’re going to have a successful season every now and then (meaning we contend for a conference championship), and we make a bowl maybe 50% of the time. That’s life in the cheap seats.

And just to be clear, the opinions I’m sharing tonight are not new, nor are they in reaction to the Southern Miss game. I’ve felt this way for several years. The college game has changed, and I just don’t think we will have the resources to compete. I’ll still donate and do everything I can, but there just aren’t enough people who are willing and/or able to do the same.

Re: So Miss discussion
My point was to try to encompass the complete delusional comments being batted around along with general unrealistic expectations as it pertains to money and the ridiculous notion that if some huge pot of money shows up we will entice top players to come to Boone. I’d love to see an actual descriptive analysis and not generalized statements. The top talent also wants to play in the biggest stadiums on national television and also on Sundays next year. Don’t turn the ball over and don’t commit penalties and we are 3-0.yosef69 wrote: ↑Sat Sep 13, 2025 9:36 pmI have no idea what point you are trying to make hereBigdaddyg1 wrote: ↑Sat Sep 13, 2025 9:34 pmI’m baffled by you guys who simply throw out the blanket excuse of us not paying enough money. That’s not putting it all on fans. Some of it is environmental. We can’t control it.
