This rings true at the CFB QB play as well. There just isn’t any emotional and mental development anymore. NIL and portal killed that. (and coaches moving around every year)

What risk are we talking about here? Expansion financed w debt?AppStFan1 wrote: ↑Sun Sep 14, 2025 8:58 amI won't argue with you on the finances issue because I know Gillin is taking a huge risk but you can't go silent like you have and then pounce on the first loss. It took Drink a few years to get Missouri going in this era so I think we need to give Loggains at least 3 years before we start calling for jobs of people.DenverOfTheEast wrote: ↑Sun Sep 14, 2025 7:38 amSo Miss Charles Huff is a really nice good coach! Marshall did the right thing and fire that AD for letting him leave for another school in the SBC. He has flipped the culture down in Hattiesburg.
The Charlotte win was Fool's Gold, they are terrible, and Appy fans and players it seems got full of themselves. Lindenwood staggered the Moutaineers and So Miss may have just knocked them out for 2025.
Coastal is a sure win, but the rest are 50/50 or no chance at winning at all. 5 wins max is my prediction for 2025. Billy Napier maybe available soon! Taylor Lamb needs to be the next coach once CDL leaves for the NFL or SEC or HS.
Gillin needs to be shown the door along with Reeder and a few others - these are like the end of the Cobb days. It needs a major remodel. One former HC in the department recently told me, 'App has a math problem in terms of finances'.

Yes and doing it with the expectation that we get an invite to a bigger conference without having a wink and nod agreement in place with a conference when he did it. It could all work out and Gillin look like a genius but he is taking a gamble and there is a chance it does not work out. I have my fingers crossed that it all goes our way in the long run.yosef69 wrote: ↑Sun Sep 14, 2025 9:22 amWhat risk are we talking about here? Heard that the other day and he is right. It is very hard to get the most out of someone when you only have a few months with them. Development takes time and sadly we have too many boosters who have too much money with no patience and and knowledge of what is really best for long term development of players.

This is not a rant, an attempt to shame anyone or call anyone out so please I hope no one takes this personal. I realize that people have their own lives and stuff going on and disposable discretionary income is different for everyone.
The App ticket office sold 40 tickets for this game through the school. The majority of the folks there were parents and player family, so 40 fans. That’s disappointing for such a passionate fanbase. I realize that it’s not a close trip but it’s a place we rarely visit. The kids deserve better.

I get your point, and they do, but it’s hard to justify, getting, say, 500 people to travel over 500 miles when the host team can’t get more than 5,000 people to travel 5 miles. They could’ve played this game in the baseball stadium.AppSt94 wrote: ↑Sun Sep 14, 2025 10:16 amThis is not a rant, an attempt to shame anyone or call anyone out so please I hope no one takes this personal. Meanwhile, we get around 34,000, with a conservative estimate of around half, who drive over two hours for our games.

I dont think a lot of fans are going to non driveable games. If I had to make a choice for a mini vacation game for this year it would definitely be Boise State over Southern MIss.AppSt94 wrote: ↑Sun Sep 14, 2025 10:16 amThis is not a rant, an attempt to shame anyone or call anyone out so please I hope no one takes this personal. The people who are spoiled when it comes to Appalachian Football are not the players, not the doners, not the administration, and not the athletic department. The people who are spoiled are the ones that post on this board and talk about how spoiled everyone is.
Just like the people that complain about brown nosers.
They are not mad because someone is brown nosing they are mad because they are better at it then they are.

Re: So Miss discussion
We went from it's the coaches fault.....it's the players fault.....it's Gillin's fault for how he runs the athletics department....it's the donors fault because we don't have enough money to buy players....and now it's the fans fault for not going to games..... Everyone is searching for some reason/excuse. It's the portal era with new players and a new head coach. Coach Dlo either figures out how to be a head coach or he doesn't. I see no reason he can't figure it out. It's obviously going to take more than a few games. This season will be one of ups and downs. I coached a soccer game yesterday where my high school team should have soundly whipped the other team. We ended up winning 5-2 but it should have been 10-0. I had my two best players out and my other good player gets hurt during the game. I had new players playing in spots they weren't used to. I also had to deal with the fact that all of them showed up to the game in a mood. Sometimes you end up winning and sometimes you end up taking a spanking. It's all in how you respond. The issue we have is that Boise St is next. Luckily we have a bye week to work on things.

Terms like “excuses” and “faults” are used by people that don’t want to accept that circumstances affect outcome.

Re: So Miss discussion
There is truth here. DG hired an OL coach to be a head coach who did not yet have the tools. SC bleeds Black and Gold and I love him. I really wanted him to be great at that job but really what were the chances. Position coach to head coach? DG is more to blame than SC. I really hope that he has corrected that error. Time will tell. What I do know is we better find someone who can work that portal. I really question our success with that so far.AppState03 wrote: ↑Sun Sep 14, 2025 3:39 amI’m not one that is too keen on excuses. The bottom line is that App State football was special at one time. Since 2019, there have been several misfires and only diminishing moments of the magic that App State football once embodied. It’s just sad to watch.
I am not saying the time is now, but if things don’t look better by the end of the season, then I believe that someone needs to call for a vote of non-confidence in the AD, Doug Gillin. He is the top dog and the only puzzle piece in the declining years that has not been switched out. The buck starts and stops with him.
Anyway, these are my thoughts. They are unsolicited but I wanted to throw in my two cents. I knew this season was going to be rough but I hoped I could see something better for the future. Game 2, against Lindenwood, was embarrassing even with a win. I had never heard of that school before and they came into the Rock and made it WAY TOO Close for comfort. The game today against Southern Miss was another embarrassment, but we lost this one. I don’t care about excuses. We outgained them by 100 yds, whatever. The only thing that matters is the number of points on the scoreboard and if a W or L goes into the win/loss column.

Boise is in two weeks. Most people would not and frankly could not travel those distances twice in a two week span.AppSt94 wrote: ↑Sun Sep 14, 2025 10:16 amThis is not a rant, an attempt to shame anyone or call anyone out so please I hope no one takes this personal. Last night felt a lot like Statesboro 2018.
Don’t believe this team is near as good as that squad, but hopefully they can maximize their potential. Maybe run the damn ball inside the 5 once in a while at least.

Re: So Miss discussion
Coaches call plays and put players in position to succeed. I think the coaches have been doing that. Coaches don't throw interceptions, drop passes, fumble the ball, commit penalties, etc.
Only possible criticism of the coaches is the red zone play calling, we seem to move the ball up and down the field last night and then throw an int. The defense is vastly improved but was still out of position too much last night. On field reads are lacking or the base defense call is bad. Not sure which.
We seem to make stupid plays at bad times. The first interception... the snap was dropped, QB picked it up and threw without even looking. If he runs or eats it, we get three. The score could have been 28-10 at half but it was not, mostly due to us shooting ourselves in the foot.

I’m much more concerned about the fans that don’t give to the Yosef Club than those that don’t travel to a college town in Mississippi.
Most fans have the time to attend maybe one away game and it sure isn’t going to be Southern Miss.

I think a lot of fans chose Boise over USM. And, that decision makes a lot of sense when you look at the history of the programs and the surrounding areas. We had a good turnout on short notice on a further trip to LaLa for the Conference Championship game a few years ago.AppSt94 wrote: ↑Sun Sep 14, 2025 10:16 amThis is not a rant, an attempt to shame anyone or call anyone out so please I hope no one takes this personal. And, don't underestimate the effects of the NIL/Portal on the passionate fan base. Some of the passion has drained for many.

100% understandable and that’s why I post wasn’t meant to criticize. I’m fortunate enough to be able to do both trips but realize most can’t. My passion has been drained as well but I’ll still support App without the emotional investment.WASU 93 wrote: ↑Sun Sep 14, 2025 12:49 pmI think a lot of fans chose Boise over USM.
