The Good,The Bad, and the Ugly- Boise State

Unread post by t4pizza » Sun Sep 28, 2025 11:40 am

Coming off the heels of another lackluster performance in our 47-14 loss to Boise State.

The Good:
Rashod Dubinion- he has run hard all year and continued last night. His 17 rushes for 113 yards were really the only highlights of our offense all night. He has proven to be a stout, dependable back that we can rely for yards.

The Bad: (sadly there continues to be too much of this one)

The offense was not good with the exception of Dubinion. The OL provided little to no protection, the WR couldn't seem to get open and when they were either dropped the ball or the passes were bad and our qb room is in tatters.

The QBS- between 3 of them we went a total of 12 of 28 for 65 yards, 1 TD and 3 interceptions. None of them looked good but Gillon again just looked out of place and is clearly not ready for game time, he needs to sit and redshirt and learn. We need Kohl to get healthy so we can see what he can do because the others just are not getting it done. This was nearly in the ugly category and probably should be.

The Defense- not much pressure up front and poor coverage in the backfield is a terrible combination and allowed Madsen to throw for 321 yards and 4 touchdowns. This unit gave up 473 yards and rarely had any brightspots. Clearly this is still a work in progress.

The Ugly:
Turnovers and penalties continue to haunt us. We are a third of the way through our season and we continue to be very undisciplined and sloppy. 4 turnovers and 11 penalties for 94 yards will rarely win a football game. We only gained a total of 184 yards and had 94 yards in penalties, and they declined 2 holding and at least another big one. It is pathetic when a team has more than 50% of their total yards given up in penalties. If the coaches don't get this under control, we will only beat the worst of the teams on our schedule.

Pretty good. I’ll try and put a bow on this pig and say the run defense was good.

Simple take.

90% of their players were better than ours. Both physically and mentally.

The good: Dubinion, Cummings, Ratliff
The bad: [you already know the answer]
The ugly: deja vu on the turnovers and penalties. Feels a bit like 2024...all over again

A hall of fame head coach with the initials JM once told me the quarterback position was 90 percent decision making and 10 confidence. We are in bad shape.

Way to pile on the trauma. I didn’t expect you to be the one adding gas to the fire via a Lindenwood mention…I was waiting for DOTE to do that.

Sorry Boots, I calls 'em like I sees 'em. ;) We have no O line, and the D gets worn out epitaph 2025 season.

I think the Ducks would be 50 point favorites if they were playing us.

I know this is tongue-in-cheek, and there are certain goals that have passed us by, but this season COULD still be somewhat successful. App has only played one conference game, and zero games against the SBC East. The conference is looking pretty weak this year, so IF (big IF) App can get it together, a decent season with a bowl game isn't out of the question.

(Feel free to bookmark this and dunk on me at the end of the season if I'm wrong)

As bad as we’ve been so far, if we improve just a little, there is a path to go 5-2 down the stretch. We need to run the ball more and get our #2 RB more reps. Use the TE as an extension of our run game and only open up the pass when we force our opponents to crowd the box. I don’t know how to fix the db’s. Our coverage is bad, but think we are tackling better and rushing to the ball carrier better than last season. Hopefully with more game time experience the DB’s will improve.

I'm with you, hoping it's similar to 2014 when it took us to midseason to get it together, except we have bowl eligibility this year.
