Re: 2025 Women's Field Hockey Season
With Sunday's dominating 7-1 win over a pretty decent Vermont team, the ladies are up to #19 in the RPI.

of all the seats in Holmes we sit where we do and now you are a fan of FH. Glad you enjoyed it.appleachian wrote: ↑Sun Sep 21, 2025 2:40 pmAttended my first ever field hockey match today. App scored in the first 90 seconds and went on to take down Vermont 7-1.
What a fun sport. Can’t wait till I get a chance to go to another.

Re: 2025 Women's Field Hockey Season
Unlike some of the other teams on campus, the hockey team is really enjoying the fruits of a roster full of seniors and four-year starters who have been playing together for years.
App did what we always seem to do to JMU the week after any Dukes team gets ranked in the polls - knock them back out. I wouldn't be suprised if App takes JMU's spot in the rankings.

Re: 2025 Women's Field Hockey Season
Like any sport a lot of deference is given to the history of the team with polls and such but it is time to be getting some looks. New poll comes out tomorrow. The coaches poll does not show "Also Receiving Votes" which is a shame. The NCAA website links to the NFHCA poll on the NFHCA website and the NCAA RPI is showing 2024 season.AppfaninCAALand wrote: ↑Sun Sep 28, 2025 4:29 pmUnlike some of the other teams on campus, the hockey team is really enjoying the fruits of a roster full of seniors and four-year starters who have been playing together for years.

Re: 2025 Women's Field Hockey Season
Northeast bias is a real thing in the sport, especially for any school not in the ACC and Big Ten. While 8-1 and #18 in the RPI should be enough for a national ranking, I am sure the coaches voting would rather celebrate the 4th place Ivy League team fluffing their records with 1-0 victories over the NEC and Patriot League. App has been pretty good for the last 5 years or so, its probably about time people noticed.McLeansvilleAppFan wrote: ↑Mon Sep 29, 2025 7:53 amLike any sport a lot of deference is given to the history of the team with polls and such but it is time to be getting some looks. Here is the updated RPI:

There is a "media poll" of sorts. It is a listener/fan poll run by a podcast devoted to college field hockey (as far as I know, the only one devoted exclusively to covering the sport). The percentage of listeners who take part is the poll is very small but they seem to be very knowledgable. I think it is a better reflection of the reality than the coaches poll, and they do publish the ORV. Last week, App was #24. https://www.instagram.com/pitchsessionp ... QwaDd3NQ==

Just imagine how annoying I would be to this board if my daughter's interest in playing for App had been reciprocated.McLeansvilleAppFan wrote: ↑Mon Sep 29, 2025 6:31 pmI so do appreciate the knowledge you bring to the subject of FH.

Re: 2025 Women's Field Hockey Season
The field is over at State Farm and where XC runs. You can park right by the field but, personally I would not as I would be afraid of an errant ball hitting my car. Park a bit down the hill and get some exercise. But basically go to State Farm parking, then keep driving part the large field park all the parking and drive up the hill a bit at the end of the road.

Is there any interest in organizing a contigent of fans to get to a home game. They truly deserve some support.

Re: 2025 Women's Field Hockey Season
Two Three MAC teams in the polls. Clearly losing to a better team did not hurt JMU much.

Re: 2025 Women's Field Hockey Season
There is actually 3 MAC teams this week. New full member UMass has been in the poll all year. It is nice to see that JMU did not drop out after the App loss.McLeansvilleAppFan wrote: ↑Tue Sep 30, 2025 8:11 pmTwo MAC teams in the polls. Clearly losing to a better team did not hurt JMU much.
I have been saying for years over on the Sun Belt board that if the SBC were to have enough schools to sponsor field hockey (or maybe co-sponsor with CUSA), it would be one of the better hockey conferences.

Re: 2025 Women's Field Hockey Season
Just like soccer, football, and baseball, App field hockey plays in the prettiest setting of any venue in D1.McLeansvilleAppFan wrote: ↑Tue Sep 30, 2025 8:06 pmThe field is over at State Farm and where XC runs.
