Can someone explain why we can't have a 6:00 or 7:30 game on Saturday?
Please, just an honest question. Why do you prefer night games?
I would just like to shake things up a little. Especially, September games could be at night. Also, someone mention having the LED lighting. What good does that do if we only play during the day.
The LED lighting system costs about 500k. That’s a good chunk of change to only use maybe one night game a year.
That’s it? AppStateNews claimed it was $2-3M, 2.5 years ago.
We would have used them last weekend late in the game. Oct 18, weeknight home games…etc.
Any game after 4pm mid October and beyond needs lights. 2nd half’s for sure.
And recruiting (this goes for basketball and other sports programs that tour the football facilities). Other NEZ events…etc
No brainer for $500k if it helps gets recruits and improves the atmosphere. Where do I donate?

Glad to know the cost though. That means they are talking about it or at least priced it out!

It ain’t happening. As I said, 500k for one game a year isn’t worth it. I get your point and understand your rationale, but unless you want to write that check, there won’t be one written by athletics.

That’s embarrassing and sad. Every other school has them that’s worth a dang. Can’t write the $500k check but if asked, I’d pay something.

A lot of high schools have them now, which tells us they aren’t $500k. This website says retrofitting existing lights costs AT MOST $540k

Every high school in my city put them in. No way they are $500k each. The guy in the booth has something on his board to make them blink. If they dropped $500k for like 9 high schools there needs to be an investigation. They probably also use them here for soccer games, maybe Lacrosse as well.

According to a website if the current structure is in place, no new poles or wiring is needed the cost would be closer to $95-$100k or so.

Regardless, whether it’s $500k $200k or $150k. That’s a drop in the bucket. Especially if we’re building a $25M indoor, spent $50M for NEZ and funding for $100M east tower.
Don’t fall behind the trends. The stadium is used for more than just football.

Just starting winning again please.

I’m just telling you what the guy that would be writing the check told me. I didn’t challenge him on his figures. Just relaying what was said.

I get it that folks want these but as much as some of you folks preach fiscal responsibility and reducing debt, all the while wanting them to spend money on something we would barely use is baffling.

That is a lot of light just to look at your cornhole.

I know this is meant in jest, but seriously, the fast proliferation of cheap LED lighting is a technological advancement that isn't given enough credit. I'd bet that all our houses are filled with LED that use WAY less energy, less material, and were more cheaply produced than lights from even just 10 years ago.

I do not believe the players would like noon kicks. Or the students. 330 is perfect and an occasional night game. 12noon for the fcs crap, sure.

The FCS game is usually the first of the season. It’s hot, even by Boone standards, and after a long offseason, we can use the extra tailgate time. No noon kicks — unless dictated by TV.
