#136 in dropped passes????
Let me say it again #136 in dropped passes. Then you have to hear it blurted out on one of the most watched games of the week Tennessee @ Bama watching the Tide smoke Joey's cigar.
Oh...and did anyone mention our tackling? We couldnt tackle a rag doll on a dummy.....JOHNBOY....somebody help me???

Re: #136 in dropped passes????
On the one hand I look at our WRs and think we have a bunch of really good ones now that everyone is healthy. Then I watch us drop passes and realize that they just are not that good. I get everyone will drop a pass or two, but to lead the country in drops is just unacceptable. The worst part is, the guys playing are presumably the best receivers on the team. So what does that say about our backups? Can nobody in the entire WR room actually catch a ball consistently?

Re: #136 in dropped passes????
Always has me thinking of the Portal, guys who enter it, where they originally played, why they enter it and what happened at the original school. I get that players transfer for many reasons but you look at some results and then you see why some transferred. They simply aren’t/weren’t good enough to play at this level. Guys come out of high school as high 3 or 4 star ratings and grab those P4 offers, land on campus and reality hits. Many don’t want to do the work and take the easy way out and we see that many aren’t up to even our standards or level. I don’t know how a staff really assesses portal guys whose only real highlights are from high school.
Always reminds me of my days coaching some travel baseball. I had guys tell me some kid looked phenomenal in the batting center. I always said let me see how he does when the lights come on or when people are watching him play.

#1 in failure inside the red zone (inside the 10) without scoring a TD. So far this season, I believe there has been 6 such situations and we've come up with 3 points vice 42. That's roughly one red zone failure per game, will we see it again this week? Stay Tuned.

Not criticizing the decision to cut Jose Leon, but it’d sure be nice to have a player or two of his skill set.

And, flip side. We have had some good portal guys.. Sutton, Robinson.
Hopefully this group improves. Cannot change the past, however, you can change the future with the next five games.

Re: #136 in dropped passes????
One thing to keep in mind is that P4 guys moved for playing time. If that’s the goal, because they are buried on a depth chart, which means they aren’t getting meaningful reps in practice at their former school. So essentially, you are still accepting potential from the portal.BambooRdApp wrote: ↑Wed Oct 22, 2025 11:56 amAnd, flip side. We have had some good portal guys.. Sutton, Robinson.

Of course. Accepting potential with any recruit... High School or transfer..AppSt94 wrote: ↑Wed Oct 22, 2025 12:53 pmOne thing to keep in mind is that P4 guys moved for playing time. We have some that pan out.. some that do not..
My point on response is that we have had some good ones to go along with some that may be "catching challenged"

Re: #136 in dropped passes????
I got the gist of your post. I should have responded in general and not to you. I was sitting in front of two guys at Boise, one guy said something about getting these transfers from an SEC school. His buddy just replied, “they were in the portal for a reason.”BambooRdApp wrote: ↑Wed Oct 22, 2025 1:26 pmOf course. Accepting potential with any recruit... Re: #136 in dropped passes????
We have a big 240lb RB on the bench that we don't utilize at all for whatever reason. I dont get it. Just like the previous staff....no adjustments and no plan B, C or D. Still dumbfounded with the KO return from the deep endzone ....that end around fooled no one and risked a turnover at a bad stage of the game. I guess someone thought we could blow their coverage after the punt return TD.WataugaMan wrote: ↑Wed Oct 22, 2025 10:47 am#1 in failure inside the red zone (inside the 10) without scoring a TD. The thing thats so frustrating is you can see the potential with this team talent wise but we don't seem to put together more than a quarter of solid play in a game. The grit and resilience known to lifetime Mountaineers has vanished. The talk is cheap it's time to eat some nails and lay some spikes. We have seen flashes of brilliance with offensive play and talent at times and periods of recent years but it's been decades now since we've seen lockdown, 3 and out Defense consistently. Yeah we play FBS Gwhatever level now.....its time to start playing like it. Totally embarrassing to lifetime supporters and unacceptable.

Keith is the running back that you are referring to I presume. He is battling through an injury and is limited in workload. Some games he can’t go.CornCobPipes wrote: ↑Wed Oct 22, 2025 3:16 pmWe have a big 240lb RB on the bench that we don't utilize at all for whatever reason. I dont get it. There seems to be A LOT of injuries. When these kids turn 60, lord help 'em.
Kidding aside, there's ways to train for resilience and it's not all weight room stuff. Are we injury prone more than our peer schools and are we training right in the offseason?

Overhauling an underperforming organization is a lot like getting rid of rotten wood: you don’t really know how bad it is and how deep it goes until you put the screwdriver in and start tearing it apart.CornCobPipes wrote: ↑Wed Oct 22, 2025 3:16 pmWe have a big 240lb RB on the bench that we don't utilize at all for whatever reason. The only way back to what you referenced is for Loggains to tear the program down and rebuild it.
Team chemistry and entitled players have been issues since SC ran the show and that’s being fixed. That means getting rid of the divas, the locker room cancers, and guys who don’t buy in to where he’s taking the program. What good is it if you have talented players, but they don’t want to study film, practice hard, run the schemes correctly, etc.? And yes, it’s ugly (both on and off the field) and not fun to see…but it absolutely has to happen. Gillin hired DL to right the ship and restore the culture. He’s doing it.
App will most likely struggle in the near term. So, we have to remember why Loggains is here and give him time to turn it around. That means all of us (me included) need to temper our expectations and look to the future.

Re: #136 in dropped passes????
Probably right. I have seen him make some amazing catches and then miss some easy ones. Consistency is the key.
Does anyone have a "per player" statistic on drops? Most important probably is targets vs drops, etc.
