App vs Georgia - Part 2
Terrbile looking game right now. No reason this team should be as offensively inept as they are regardless of coaching. Too much experience to shoot this bad. Hoping it turns around.

I really had hopes for the team this year after the way they finished last year. However there is nothing to hang one's hat on thus far. For the first time I have posted such but we need a change at the top. I was willing to be patient but that has run out.

Down one at the half and lose by 18. That was the Dust Bowl and Great Depression all rolled into one.appfanz wrote:Actually only down a point at halftime and looking good. Then went on a large scoring drought in the second half.

Re: App vs Georgia - Part 2
I completely lost it last season and I'm grinding my teeth every time we play this season. So, this afternoon, Capel decides to go with a three guard attack. That decision (starting Hamilton, Burgess and Eaves) netted us 4 for 25 shooting from the floor--an even 16%. We were only 4 for 18 from the three point arc--for 22%. That sums it all up. A double-digit loss to a heretofore one win team. I will offer kudos to Tevin Baskin for another good outing--50% shooting.hapapp wrote:I really had hopes for the team this year after the way they finished last year. Other team stats look like this...
Points in the paint-APP 14,UGA 40.
Points off turnovers-APP 8,UGA 20.
2nd chance points-APP 6,UGA 13.
Fast break points-APP 0,UGA 8.
Bench points-APP 13,UGA 24,
Rebounds-App 31, UGA 37
We were beaten in every facet of the game by a basketball nobody (relatively speaking).
For me, this was the final nail in Coach Capel's contract renewal "coffin."

I don't think that this was the final nail. This was the first shovel full of dirt. If Capel had a chance, it ended the moment he knew Canty was ineligible. Two key players in back to back seasons with bad grades. Struggling on the court is one thing, but you can't be bad in the classroom. You can do one poorly, and it masks the other; but you can't do both. Can we just fast forward to Asheville and get this overwith?

Capel inherited championship caliber talent and proceeded to run the program into the ground. If he finishes Dec 4-8 (real possibility) and no wins against D-I competition will Cobb finally admit he screwed up and pull the plug on this failed experiment? Let Kummer finish out the year and start the process of finding a coach that brings more to the table than "life experiences".

I don't believe there is any lack of admittance from up top that this experiment didn't work. We just couldnt afford to fire him and pay two coaches. Unfortunately this has to take it course. It will be over soon enough.

I don't even feel like he brought that to the table. He played for UNC and he has relatives with coaching experience. That's it. Oh, and a strong lobbyist in Mr. Echota.Kgfish wrote:finding a coach that brings more to the table than "life experiences".
It was the worst hire ever.

Re: App vs Georgia - Part 2
To pretend that Charlie cares what happens in BB is ridiculous. If BB had the non student fan support that football has that would be a different matter. The simple fact is that it does not have fan support so it does not have administration support. If it had fan support they would have the money to ax the coach and hire another coach. We have money problems already so what makes anyone think we are going to spend any on BB?

He cares, and I think once we have a new coach we will put together a program to be competitive in the Sun Belt.At least I hope we will.bcoach wrote:To pretend that Charlie cares what happens in BB is ridiculous.

He sure has a funny way of showing it. He has done nothing but screw it up since the day he arrived. I honestly believe the only way you could get his interest in the BB program is to wrap a steak around it.TheMoody1 wrote:He cares, and I think once we have a new coach we will put together a program to be competitive in the Sun Belt.At least I hope we will.bcoach wrote:To pretend that Charlie cares what happens in BB is ridiculous.

Capel will NOT be fired mid-season but he won't last 2 days after their 1st round exit in the SoCon tourney. No one on his staff is capable of turning this around, so you might as well just ride it out and end this failure at the end of the year. The karma of what the powers to be (not Charlie), did to Houston Fancher is coming back to bite people in the butt.

Men's basketball is a revenue sport for most schools. For us, it's a cost center.
