This coach will run this program straight into the ground. There is no culture. The way he has talked and acted towards the girls is a huge issue. They don’t watch film, he has come up with some crazy game preps that question if he even watches film, his obsession with playing a setter that has no business being at a DI school is crazy, and it was obvious the girls didn’t respond to his antics. Maybe Doug will get rid of him now instead of in a few years when the program has been tanked.

My faith in Gillin is gone. Don't expect him to do anything.

My guess is Doug has no idea what is going on with Volleyball. He sees they were around .500 and that is good enough for a first year coach and expected a rebuild this year. Unless he is talking to the players, he doesn't know how bad the culture was. Maybe admin does end of year interviews with players? If not, the players are probably too afraid to say anything. We can just hope that admin has some clues that prompt conversations with players to get the real story. Otherwise agree that the longer they wait on a change, the worse it will get.

If the culture is that bad, and you are family members, reach out to Doug yourself, I think it would be warranted.

Personally, I am not a family member, but have gotten to know some parents and players this year. I think they are all worried about repercussions from the coach to them or their daughter if they say something. I don't know any administrators so I don't know how anonymous that process would be. But from the stories I have heard, I agree that it would be warranted to say something. From serious things like personal insults and comments that impact mental health to less serious but still questionable things like not providing adequate meals on game days, withholding their gear, etc. Does not look promising for future success for the program.

Agree. Athletes and families are concerned about the repercussions. The meals, the gear, the pitting of players against each other, the mental abuse, the lack of game preparation, the inappropriate actions, the lack of compassion for kids talking to family members after a match, and the list continues.

It will be very interesting to see if some of the better players that love App are willing to just stay and deal with it for the next year or two or if they bolt. This guy is no good.

Personally, if someone has witnessed these items, go to AD. At least gets process started and not traced to individual player or parent.

I have been told that there have been multiple meetings between players/Admin and parents/Admin this week, as well as throughout the season. Admin is fully aware of situation now. It’s just a matter of if DG will do the right thing or will hide out and hope it works itself out.

Now lets see if our AD has the courage to do what is right.
