Charlotte/App

Unread post by NWA49 » Tue Nov 26, 2013 10:35 am

Still a little over a week away - but just got my tickets. Wish I could say I was confident after beating UM last weekend, but given how we typically play up there I am more worried about this game than I want to be. Hopefully you guys can rally a few hundred people to be there. Always more fun at a visiting arena when there is some atmosphere! I suspect that with the Panthers game being flexed to later that evening NinerNation will bring a decent crowd.

I'm sure UNCC will bring ~200 or so folks like last time. Last time we played the atmosphere was electric. I suspect it will be a huge disappointment this year in comparison since Capel has utterly destroyed App Basketball.

Enjoy the trip to the most wonderful town on our great state. And don't beat our "team" by too much.

We should get a descent student crowd due to it being early on sunday and being right befre exams.
That's what I do. I gripe and I know things.

Wife is from Boone so we always enjoy our trips up there. As far as beating your team, I will just be happy with a W. Our team isn't really built to beat people by a lot, but we have a few shooters this year so I guess anything is possible. I haven't been to a basketball game up there since the 90s, just looking forward to hanging out and helping the wife return to her old stomping grounds.

I just wanted to leave a comment because it is the only time Gonzo and I will ever agree on anything. You guys may not care much about basketball (except for the Mountaineers that transform into Tarheel fans this time of the year), but you deserve a better program than this.

There are still plenty of people who care about App basketball but have a major problem with the people/person in charge. You wouldn't see so many threads complaining about it if some people didn't care. Our problems extend back way before Capel was hired. There have been a string of bad decisions for years now that have brought us to this point. And it's going to take time to get out of this mess. The problem is the clock hasn't even started on that time and it won't as long as Cobb is in charge which means that, barring a decision by the new Chancellor, we're looking at 3 more years minimum thanks to the contract extension. Unless Cobb does a complete 180 and makes a good basketball decision for once then our hole just keeps getting deeper.

The ones I really feel for are the players. They are stuck right in the middle of a pit of quicksand and right now there's not a tree branch in sight. It's a shame that a university with nearly 18,000 students and quite a few area alums can't put 1,000 butts in seats for any game but that's what happens when you are faced with constant disappointment. One would hope that the administration would see the SB move as a chance for a fresh start and to re-brand and begin to rebuild the program but I'm not going to hold my breath. But I will still hope and still go to as many games as I can.

There's no way that Cobb would be willing to pay the salary of two coaches for the duration of Capel's contract should he elect to dismiss Coach Capel.

There is a similar rate of UNC Walmart fanship among students and alumni of UNCC as there is at App. Same goes for ECU. I think it's ridiculous and hypocritical to continually badger us with that nonsense. This website is a consistent forum for bashing UNC Chapel Hill.

Also, I'm almost certain Halton Arena would have the same or worse attendence if their BBall program suffered similar mismanagement to the point their team had 0 D-1 wins in December and an RPI over 300.

Your tongue-in-cheek arrogance is stale.

Please point out to me where I said he was going to fire Capel and hire another coach right now. I'm not stupid. If we won't pay for a proper S & C coordinator why would I believe we would pay for two head coaches. Capel is in the last year of his contract which happens to be our last year in the SoCon. I said I hope the administration would look at the SB move as a chance to re-brand and begin to rebuild the program.

See, that did not take long. Gonzo and I disagree so all is right in the universe. We have gone through a horrible period in our program and will still be paying Bobby Lutz through March of 2014 even though Coach Major is in his fourth season. As bad as we have been Halton continues to be in the top 90 Div I teams in attendance, and we cannot get into the top 50 because our arena isn't large enough, so all things considered we have not been abandoned. There is no doubt that we were willing to throw so much money out the window in an effort to let fans know we wanted more. It seems to be working. Don't get pissy if App isn't willing to do the same. It is hardly my fault.

Samford? I mention a D3 school that whooped your butts and you mention FCS playoff-making Samford?

You UNCc boys just don't know football.

Solid job by Kobb not scheduling this on a Saturday so more people could attend...

We are well aware that we have attendance issues. You guys do much better, but then again, you are in a metro area of over 2 million at a university with 30,000 people. Combine that with playing in the A10, probably the best mid major conference, and you should average 5,000 or whatever it is. Let's not act like you guys don't have an issue with students that double as Tar Heel basketball fans. We all know you do, as does every school in the state not named Duke.
Also, Samford would beat you by 60. At least mention a loss we are embarrased about: NC A&T

App losing to A&T isn't even comparable to a D3. Wesley College is a glorified inter mural team.

Fair enough. I just picked a random team off your schedule that seemed like a nobody and beat you. I should have chosen better with so many to pick from. Tonight began our Week of the Weak. See you next Sunday.

You won't see me. I'm staying n Charlotte. I thought Capel
might turn this around but.....Capel is officially a lame duck and it will take us at least 4 more years with a new coach. Ironically I'd like to see Bobby Lutz in the mix for our next coach.

Bring as many fans as possible. Since they'll never be able to get into school here, at least they can get into a basketball game.

I wasn't speaking to your post specifically, rather it seemed one poster had said he had three years left on his contract. I didn't know this was the final year on his present contract.

I understand. I think you might have read where I said Cobb just got a three year extension and thought I was referring to Capel. I should have made it more clear that I was referring to Cobb.

That didn't take long.

Charlotte should win big, but they have a history of soul-crushing losses in the Holmes Center.
