Exactly. Some folks have time on their hands and just look at is as something to do.

If that is your situation one day then call or email a coach or the SID and ask if you can. That is up to them to welcome you and if they say no then let it go and be understanding. If I am in town I might swing by or call before pulling in and ask but I won't be butt hurt if they tell me that I can't watch practice or it is not a good day to come to the building. The NFL doesn't even show up randomly. They reach out and ask permission and they truly have working reasons to come.

I get that for sure. It just sounded from a post that some folks were really upset about not getting in.

That’s supposition from someone that has “heard” that and decided that it’s truth. Folks that want to ask to attend practice don’t ask the coach, they ask the administration that they contribute their money too.

There’s a lot of people that heard things in the past they presented as truths.

Some folks have asked coaches. I am pretty sure the SID, AD, and coaches probably prefer we don't go all the time because it takes them out of their routine and is inconvenient. Only a jock sniffer would want to be there every day anyway. I would honestly feel like a loser going to App or my high school every day to watch practice. We should be supporting the program to give back and not just because we want to feel special and be on the field every day. We all contribute money but unless your name is on the stadium they should have the right say whether you can come that day or not.AppSt94 wrote: ↑Sun Nov 23, 2025 10:44 amThat’s supposition from someone that has “heard” that and decided that it’s truth. I would suggest that having to deal with one or more random people (and I mean people not required to be there to add value) at practice along with any time spent answering YES or NO is not DLo’s top priority right now. I want him focused on player development, recruiting, opponents etc. Any of this other stuff is a distraction right now.
So I am with most of you , stop wasting his time .

I've been to Mountaineer Talk every week until the last two weeks, and those were due to a scheduling conflict and illness, respectively. I plan on being there this Wednesday. Since Mountaineer Talk was mentioned, I'll offer my first-hand experience.
Dowell shows up right before the show (sometimes with seconds to spare) as they just finished practice. Then he usually leaves soon after his 30-minute segment to go to Franklin Graham's campfire circle that App coaches always go to. MT use to be on Tuesday, but Dowell wanted it on Wednesday. The off-week not long ago, Dowell had it moved to Tuesday with 48 hours notice because he had a scheduling conflict on Wednesday, and he stayed a little longer.
Stuff said so far about how personable he is or not tracks. He's not a big talker to people, but he does engage if someone wants to talk to him, and people often do right after his segment.
He's very guarded during his talk with Adam Witten. Starts off with short answers while watching the TVs set up all over River Street Ale House, but eventually he does go a little more in depth. Honestly, the players have been more of the highlights this season, and that's not always been the case. I use to go every week in the 2010s when I lived in Blowing Rock until moving away during the pandemic. I missed the Clark era MT's, but by all accounts he loved talking to the people there.

You have every right as a booster to ask if I can watch when I’m there but they don’t have to let you in.AppSt94 wrote: ↑Sun Nov 23, 2025 12:01 pmAppreciate the virtue signaling.AppStFan1 wrote: ↑Sun Nov 23, 2025 11:57 amSome folks have asked coaches. My whole point is that I think they should have it open to all donors at certain times but none of us should be going up there every day or every week expecting to get a sit down with Loggains and getting access. If Loggains and Gillin feel they need to shut it down for periods of time I’m okay with it. Folks wouldn’t complain if we were winning though.

Satterfield had some practices open in 2014 or 2015. I remember Malachi Jones would get into fights with every DB. After that, Satt never opened practices again.
I think Drink relaxed some of those restrictions, then Clark closed them back up after the COVID restrictions expired.

A lot of stuff is at risk to happen like that or a fan could get injured, etc. I remember when Clark closed the practice. I don't blame him at all for it.T-Dog wrote: ↑Sun Nov 23, 2025 3:14 pmSatterfield had some practices open in 2014 or 2015. I remember Malachi Jones would get into fights with every DB. Practice should never be open to anyone outside the team....period. I don't care how much money you give.

I wouldn’t go that far. There are people who need to know what’s going on at practice. There could also be opportunities for an observer to help coaches become better at their craft. Would you pay a group of people and have them forbid you from watching what they’re doing at work?

Lol. Entitled fans and donors. The game is FAR more competitive than it has ever been. Every little thing helps and every little leak hurts. Y'all can't have a winning team and one that is open for y'all to tinker around with.Mjohn1988 wrote: ↑Sun Nov 23, 2025 4:54 pmI wouldn’t go that far. Closed practice is the standard in the business as I understand it. I frankly am not going to sit through an entire practice session. I may however have taken a peek or two while in the neighborhood.

Absolutely. If that is the reason people are giving then they need to stop. You don't want leaks.ASUTodd wrote: ↑Sun Nov 23, 2025 5:45 pmLol. Entitled fans and donors. Re: FB at No. 24 JMU, 3:30 p.m., ESPN+
Exactly. Even if I am in the area and can see what they are doing I am not going to stand there for more than a few minutes. I actually have a life. The only way I would let anyone come to practice as head coach is if they give up their cell phone so they could not take any video and post it and I would still limit what they see and how long. NFL teams are the only people who don't work or play for our football program that I would not limit and it is my understanding that Loggains does not have any limits on them.
