Completely agree. I’m in that demographic and location. YC is a joke. I used to send emails in my 20s trying to get stuff off the ground; but lost interest when nothing changeskornegaylw wrote: ↑Sun Dec 08, 2024 12:09 pmI think the YC in its current state is a big missed opportunity for us...i believe there is a large untapped base, especially in the millennial generation, who would donate in a significant way. They live off the mountain and would donate if it was made simple i.e via an app or at events in the RDU/Triad/Charlotte markets.DenverOfTheEast wrote: ↑Sun Dec 08, 2024 11:11 amWe can have a major discussion this --kornegaylw wrote: ↑Sun Dec 08, 2024 10:52 amI know nothing of the situation...BUT...I feel like the Yosef Club could use some attention. As an alumni in my 30s I never hear from them and I never hear about fund raising from them. What I've been told is the organization doesn't pay well and it loses ppl all the time. I understand capital is a limited resource but the organization that helps generate capital feels like it needs some capital.DenverOfTheEast wrote: ↑Sun Dec 08, 2024 10:42 amGillin has hired 2 softball coaches, 1 volleyball coach, 1 baseball coach, 1 men's basketball coach, 1 women's basketball coach, 1 track and field, x country, multiple golf coaches (should cut the golf programs), and 3 football coaches now.
Not counting about 35 Yosef Club hires.
Gillin was hire late winter/early spring of 2015.
Open to being educated on this topic.
1) they don't pay enough to keep good help around
2) the employees us it as a stepping stone
3) DG controls the YC behind the scenes, he just uses the staff as a front to deflect the blame and rising cost
Nothing goes on in the YC without DG knowing of it. The YC needs a guy like App alum Davis Babb that runs the IPTAY or someone like Gearld or Beasley - but DG ego won't allow it. Suzette was paid by the Foundation and positioned to work in YC, her salary was never out of Athletic budget.

I'm sorry, but this is a ridiculous and embarrassing thread. Doug's not perfect but in my opinion he's done a great job with the resources he's had at his disposal and the environment he's had to deal with.

Re: Gillin
Just stating facts:
Missed bowl game 3/4 years.
Haven’t hired a HC since Jerry Moore:
OC, OC, OL, OC.
Sacrificed other sports (Soccer, Men’s Tennis).
Helene
Suicide
Clark’s passing
Players quitting midseason
This programs energy/vibe/morale is as bad as it gets. I’m sure it could get worse, but wow, what a tough cold environment.

Need new AD blood. Time has run its course. Get some excitement going again and maybe the money will come.

Re: Gillin
App State has one of, if not the highest, get-in-the-door season ticket prices in the G5/6, donation included. There are $500/year donors who do not get guaranteed parking. First two home games of the year, on the West Side, you get herded into an insane security setup that leads to crushes and people missing kickoff. Wanna drink something non-alcoholic? Four dollars. Want it to be cold? A cup with ice is two more dollars. Something to eat? At least $10 for something of substance. I heard from multiple NEZ ticket holders about how terrible those concessions are. Then after the game, walking out, the security guards have bullhorns for some dumb reason. Then you sit in traffic for a while.
It's a lot more bearable when you win. This season, you saw a team go 3-3 at home while not knowing who the starting QB will be half the time because the coach acts like it's a state secret.

Doug was supposed to be a fundraiser first I thought. Get someone who can monetize a top g5 fan base. Battered as they may be.

Re: Gillin
Makes sense.
Something needs to change. This is ostensibly the easier of the two.
Give the coach one year under a new AD. If he turns it around, great. If not, the new guy does what he has to do. DL won’t be his guy- easier to cut ties.

Re: Gillin
Most newly-hired AD’s come in with an itch to hire their own HC. So not sure how that would go down. If Norris cut DG loose (questionable at this point) and they were to find someone to take the job, the leash would get even shorter for DLo.

Re: Gillin
I'll always remember in February 2015 after the MBB game I was at an event and Jim Fox was there. It was Gillin's first weekend after he was hired. I asked Jim how he felt about Gillin and without missing a beat, Jim said "well, he didn't hire me."

Re: Gillin
For me, Gillin’s crew has severely underperformed in the game day setting. No orchestration, everything feels gimmicky and Busch league
