Personally, I would like a mobile QB.. However, the QB needs to be accurate. I prefer accuracy. Case and point to last weekend. If the Herd QB had been accurate or close to accurate on several plays, the game would have been an L for App. St.
Although I hope he is not accurate this weekend, the inconsistency of the arky st QB in the passing game is why, offensively, they are fighting for a bowl spot versus already being bowl eligible.

The one main issue is timing. Many high school guys are already committed and the others have a lot of options coming at them right now. The worst part is QB hasn't been a priority recruiting target for some time. No doubt we've kept as much contact as possible with our backup guys but the timing pretty much means we'll have to flip someone or build some relationships with some new guys in a big hurry. We probably stand a better chance at this point with the portal but will have to pony up some cash to get the interest of some of the good ones. The new reality pretty much sucks. This ain't the recruiting I grew up with.

It is interesting that D Lo continually talks about the difficulty of defending against a dual threat but we recruit pro style. I hope to see a change in strategy when the portal opens. If not , I am less optimistic about his tenure.

Just flipped this Dual Threat 3 star away from Georgia State. Ranked App states 9th best all-time recruit and he should be signing tomorrow

I'd love yo get hyped about this guy but the star rating system has always been iffy. It mainly.means you showed up to the right camps and did well enough. With this guy he was at a 4A school in TN. TN has 1A-6A. He never made it out of thr second round of the playoffs despite his big season stats. I hope he turns into Armanti 2.0. But I dont get my hopes up these days.

No disrespect, and I agree the star system is pretty much BS, but discounting good HS stats because he "only" played 4A and never won a championship is a pretty flawed metric. There's plenty of examples of elite football players who didn't win state championships.
I'm not saying this dude above is the same, but Gunner Stockton played at 1A Rabun County and never won a state championship, and he's played very well for a playoff-bound UGA team. Derrick Henry played at a 3A HS (Florida goes from 1-7A) and never won a state championship.

Well, I never said state championships because of that very reason. I said second round. I get your point, but those two are a bad comparison. They put up legendary high school stats and records. Gunner had 13k passing yard. Derek had 12k rushing yards. This guy had 2k passing and 1k rushing his senior year. Junior was shy of 2k passing and about 900 rushing. Nice stats, but not in the same universe as the two examples you gave. But like I said, I hope hes Armanti 2.0.

Very true and I know I’m not saying anything earth shattering but we’re not prime Saban bama and prime Kirby uga.

If he put up those #s he’d be signing for one of them. We have to develop this guy if he/us are going to be successful.

Totally agree. That's why I said "this dude above is not the same." Just pointing out that the level of HS ball and playoff wins doesn't determine how good a player is. If his stats are really good, he's probably a really good football player.

I hope our new QB commit turns out to be the second coming of AE, but I will temper my expectations. I do not put much stock on stars, or even the game highlights (I have no idea what level of competition) or stats (for the same reason as highlights) instead I tend to look at what other schools were recruiting the kid and who gave the most interest. Prior to our offer, his offers were from Austin Peay, Bowling Green, Eastern Kentucky and Georgia State. None of those are good programs, that in and of itself does not spell dominant future all conference player to me. I really hope he is a great one, but I will have to see it before I get my hopes up too high. And yes, I am well aware of all the "undiscovered or overlooked" talent that we have recruited, developed and turned into stars and even NFL players. I really do hope he is the next in that long line.

Why on earth are we questioning talent before it gets here. At this point I am happy he is willing to come.

Because it’s unfortunately the off season and we have to have our thrice yearly circlejerk about stars

A lot can change*, but as-of 10:45am on December 3rd, App has the #1 class in the Sun Belt in total points (helped out by the fact we're taking a bigger class than most) and average rating. The #59 class overall. And we're the only program in the Sun Belt that has signed a 4-star out of high school (per 247).

*Note that the 247 page still has all these players listed as "commits" and none updated to "signed" even though we know some of them have actually signed, so take all of the above with a grain of salt until the page gets updated.

Also, is anyone else having a hard time seeing linked tweets on this message board? I'm just seeing a gray box with a sad face in it. I can't even click on them for links.

We will not truly know anything about the guys we sign until they are suited up and playing in the first game of next season.
Everything between now and then is only talk and conjecture.

It is funny you say it that way and it is true...We won't know until next year......Which is quite the change from a few years ago when we wouldn't know about these guys for 2-3 years.

If the young man signs, do we really think he would actually start as a true freshman. Doesn't seem to happen often... Will DLo risk that option given expectations for next year?
Also depends on what other QBs on the roster.

Sorry wasn't clear....Wasn't speaking about the QB, just generally was saying due to the portal teams are playing kids earlier instead of the old way of developing and/or putting them in weight training regardless of how ready they were.
