Grobe resigns at WF
And already, Ed Orgeron and Pete Lembo are linked to the opening.
It's a big hire for Wake. With App and Charlotte becoming FBS next year plus the ACC expansion, the next hire could be the difference between irrelevance and making a run.
Plus having Lembo at Wake would be awesome so we can beat him again.
EDIT: And now Grobe is being linked to Elon. Amazing.

Re: Grobe resigns at WF
Grobe is a good coach, but its almost impossible to recruit the talent he needed to win, even in the weak ACC. Wakes athletic dept is pretty much at an all time low, the football program has hit bottom, and probably going to take years to get them back to atleast respectability, and the men's basketball program, which has traditionally been a top tier ACC team, has been in the bottom of the ACC for the last 3-4 years.

Re: Grobe resigns at WF
My hope is West Virginia will fire that arrogant ahole Holgerson (Saturday blew a 31-7 halftime lead against the last place team at home and lost) and bring home a native West BY GOD Virginian to lead the "other" Mountaineers --- great man, very good coach, national recruiting -moehler wrote:Grobe is a good coach, but its almost impossible to recruit the talent he needed to win, even in the weak ACC. Jim Grobe is a class coach, a class individual. "Give these guys a better chance", he says.
Keep in mind that he had three years left on his contract and was only one win away from being the all time win coach at WF. Humility, sacrifice, knowing when to step away; he continues to set the example.

Not disagreeing that he's a good coach but look down the road in Durham. Cutcliff has turned the Duke program around with people saying similar things about the difficulty of recruiting to high academic private programs.moehler wrote:Grobe is a good coach, but its almost impossible to recruit the talent he needed to win.
With Grobe gone, maybe the 421 rivalry can be rekindled.

I agree - however Grobe has already done what Cutcliffe is now doing ---moonshine wrote:Not disagreeing that he's a good coach but look down the road in Durham. the jury still out on whether Cutcliff has turned the corner with this program, or if this is just a one year fluke, where everything came togeather. Im leaning toward the latter, I've seen this before with Duke, they put togeather a good team for one or two years, then they end up back in the bottom tier of the ACC for the next 10 years, just have to wait and see.

Re: Grobe resigns at WF
Of course if Spurrier had stayed I think they would have remained competitive and Cutcliff clearly is the best coach they've had since Spurrier --- this isn't a senior dominated team, they have some quality young players - but even with that, the odds are stacked against them ---

Re: Grobe resigns at WF
Duke and Wake Forest could hire Nick Saban or Urban Myer and they would not be able to sustain a winning program. Both UNC and NC State and ECU have been struggling for years to have a consistent winner. Grobe had a winner for a few years now Wakeis back to earth, same will happen at Duke.

Re: Grobe resigns at WF
Duke might not make the ACC championship game next season, but I think their days as the Western Caroling of the ACC are over - as long as the current staff stays in place. Wake needs to make good on all the plans they had floating around before the recession hit, if they want to have a chance at scoring the big recruits. At one point, they were going to build a new building between the football and baseball stadiums, but that was put on hold. Their current building (football fieldhouse), while nice, isn't going to cut it in today's arms race.

Word today is that land lines between W-S, NC and Muncie, IN are red hot! Can you hear the Deacs now, Pete?

Was hoping that Lembo would leave Ball State for Alaska or Austrailia.

Lembo might rekindle the App/Wake series just for an opportunity to take out some more knees.asu66 wrote:Word today is that land lines between W-S, NC and Muncie, IN are red hot! Can you hear the Deacs now, Pete?

Re: Grobe resigns at WF
Talked to a buddy of mine who is in tight with Wake athletics. He thought the Lembo option was interesting, but wouldn't confirm or deny anything. He's an Elon grad, so he is familiar with Lembo. He said Orgeron would likely not be the guy, due to his tie ins with scandal at USC, but that it could still happen if Wellman feels like he has to hire a "name" to keep his job.asu66 wrote:Word today is that land lines between W-S, NC and Muncie, IN are red hot! Looks like it will be Clawson from Bowling Green taking over at WF - I believe he was at Richmond when we played them in the playoffs a few years ago ---

Clawson was there for the night game. He got to see KBS at its best, so that could go either way on his desire to bring the Deacs up the Mountain.WVAPPeer wrote:Looks like it will be Clawson from Bowling Green taking over at WF - I believe he was at Richmond when we played them in the playoffs a few years ago ---
