Historical Excellent QB play

Post by t4pizza » Tue Dec 16, 2025 11:12 am

I just stumbled upon this little tidbit and it surprised me even though I have seen them all and knew what they did. I didn't realize this until I saw the stats, so I thought I would share. We have really been blessed to have excellent QB play continually since 1999 (relative to App State football history). It is crazy to think but every full time starting QB that we have had since 1999 is in the All Time top 9 for passing yards at App State. Until this year that is. It started with Smoking Joe back in 1999-2002 and he ranks 9th all time with 5427 and every full time starter following him up until Joey Aguilar has a place ahead of him all time. It really is an amazing run when you think about it.

1 Armanti Edwards 10,392 2006 2007 2008 2009
2 Taylor Lamb 9,655 2014 2015 2016 2017
3 Richie Williams 7,759 2002 2003 2004 2005
4 Zac Thomas 6,979[3] 2017 2018 2019 2020
5 Joey Aguilar 6,760[4] 2023 2024
6 Steve Brown 6,533 1977 1978 1979 1980
7 Chase Brice 6,258[5] 2021 2022
8 Jamal Londry-Jackson 5,971 2010 2011 2012 2013
9 Joe Burchette 5,427 1999 2000 2001 2002

It was an exhilarating time to be an ASU football fan. The best era of college football ever for me, by far. So many epic moments.

I realize this is for recent QBs but I'd like to know where Pat Murphy from the 1968 team would rank here, even though only 11 games were allowed back then and it was NAIA. I've heard many players, coaches, and fans from that era say that the 1968 team was good enough to score from anywhere on the field in one play.
We don't slide at Appalachian State. It's a sign of weakness.

Wasn’t Pressley a QB for the season after Armanti?

You are correct. I was just being lazy and going by the years mentioned and Jamal said from 2010-2013 so I thought it was continual. But you are right, Pressley started all of 2010 (except 1 game and a few games of 2011 before Jamal took over the starting role. So it isn't as impressive, but still every full time starter except Pressley since 1999 is in the top 9 is still impressive.

I still think DP got a bad concussion on that last play at Georgia Southern when he fumbled to end the game. He had virtually identical stats to Armanti through that game and then fell off a cliff.

Amazing what he did after he switched positions though! Not many players can switch to DB and make it to the NFL.

How could he, the team never went there during his time. Reports to the contrary are just fake news.
