This may not be a ritual but I have always remembered something John Mackovic did when he was at Wake Forest in 1979. Instead of the players running onto the field (like every other team does), the Wake players gathered outside the field house in a platoon formation, team captains front, rear and at both flanks. As a unit, they "airborne shuffled" their way down the home sideline. When the first row reached an appointed yard line, the row would break ranks and sprint onto the field, remaining rows doing likewise. The crowd loved it and it portrayed a sense of unity.

I just hope that Sean Connery is back for GOOD. Its not the same without that dashing Brit popping out and saying "Welcome to the Rock!" Followed by an EXPLOSION of cheers. Gives me goose bumps as I write it.

If there was a bowing smiley I'd be using it right now. That would be awesome. And if using Victory Yosef raises the hackles of GoApps70 (and assorted others) while at the game, I'm doubly for it.
Heck, pour it on and prey to it if you want. Since you want to mention my username and dislike for hillbilly cartoon Yosef RankinApp and ASU Mountaineer may it be like the opening of the Ark of the Covenant for you. At least I am being honest in that I have never liked the old Yosef drawing. There are plenty of people who don't like it or want to be known to other schools as hillbillies but know this site adopts it as their symbol at the top of the page so say nothing.

My response to a WV fan who mentioned it making App look more hillbilly and less Mountaineer:

What's wrong with being a hillbilly? Embrace it! Hell we played for the Old Mountain (moonshine) Jug in our rivalry game with Western Carolina. Doesn't get much more hillbilly than that.

A logo isn't going to change the stereotypes of how folks view our institution. We are bearded, toothless, moonshine drinking, corn cob pipe smoking, overall wearing, goat and sister humping hillbillies...and lest we forget our tree hugging hippies too!

I really don't see how this will have a negative impact, especially considering it's a secondary logo but to each his own. This was financially driven based off of how our fans responded to the throw back. It will run its course.

Back to our regularly scheduled thread...I like the flag raising idea! The SYC needs to make this happen. I'd also like to see them add more cheers. Does anyone know what they say on knockoffs? I can't make it out. Another idea for the SYC and App students in general is to build a mobile App fan app that we can download (free...sell ad space generate revenue for App) that has cheers and the timing for said cheer that can send notifications to all our fans in the stands and we can do them in unison. Get everyone on the same page and make KBS that much more loud, fun and intimidating.

 It's hardly a religious symbol to me, but I do enjoy the hyperbole. Please check out my previous post, my including you was just in jest--no harm intended.

To respond to your post, I would just say that my support of the old/new logo is not passionate like your disdain for it. I just don't get the fuss about a secondary logo.

Lastly, at least I am being honest in that I have always like the old Yosef. There are plenty of people who do like it and don't care if we're known to other schools as "hillbillies" (in fact, I hope we are viewed that way). NOTE: This last statement is a joke, 70. :D

Got a smile out of your post but you forgot to add "football loving Neanderthals" after hillbillies. :)
While I prefer the old/new Yosef to the Gorton's fisherman, I must say the white block "A" has become my favorite brand mark for the university.

They say "You suck, @$$hole." Yes, they most certainly do need a new "cheer."

I love the flag idea.

I would bet most people agree with that statement.

Davey Crocket and Daniel Boone were not mountaineers. A better label for them is frontiersmen. History shows that they led the way west. Daniel Boone's family lived in Wilkesboro in the Brushy Mountains during the time he hunted vicinity Boone. He and his family never lived in the southern Appalachians. That's why it is so very important for us to understand that our mascot is all about the people who permanently lived in the southern Appalachians. Hunters, farmers, and shepherds all lived in the southern Appalachians by the mid 1700s. Our Yosef is exactly what we need to have to represent the southern mountain people.

Im not sure how the new tradition of yelling You Suck A$$hole got started in the student section. I do wish it would stop. It is classless and makes the school look bad. I have always been told if you have to curse its probably because you cant think of anything intelligent to say.
