Re: Roster/Staff Updates
I thought the young kid on the sidelines during some games was doing an internship.. thought he was transitioning to a full time roll as OC.

Re: Roster/Staff Updates
Is the offensive frustration from fans the result of poor playcalling or the fact that we had injuries to the starting QB, top 2 RBs, starting TE, top 3 WRs, 3 starting OL at different points of the season?

I do think injuries were a major issue.ASUFan4863 wrote: ↑Mon Jan 26, 2026 5:56 pmIs the offensive frustration from fans the result of poor playcalling or the fact that we had injuries to the starting QB, top 2 RBs, starting TE, top 3 WRs, 3 starting OL at different points of the season?
I didn’t have a HUGE problem with play calling. My biggest issue with play calling was in the red zone when we forced the pass. Seemed like the run would be working and then we tried to force the pass, leading to turnovers and FGs. Hopefully we reflect and learn from this.

My issue with the OC is that he isn't a good one, he wasn't in the NFL and not really in college either.

Re: Roster/Staff Updates
Good points and I hope for those things as well. In my opinion, he has already shown a desire to change several things offensively, which gives me hope. We went run heavy the last two weeks (not counting the bowl game here because that was essentially a necessity with the lack of passing ability from Wilson and Gillon), targeted only mobile QBs in the offseason, targeted more receivers with production, etc..appstate24 wrote: ↑Mon Jan 26, 2026 6:05 pmI do think injuries were a major issue.ASUFan4863 wrote: ↑Mon Jan 26, 2026 5:56 pmIs the offensive frustration from fans the result of poor playcalling or the fact that we had injuries to the starting QB, top 2 RBs, starting TE, top 3 WRs, 3 starting OL at different points of the season?

How does he compare to App’s last three OCs - Ponce, Barbay and Peterson in your opinion? I just want to have a clear understanding of how you would rank the 4 and why?

This is why I won't complain about Loggains because I compare him to what we have had.ASUFan4863 wrote: ↑Mon Jan 26, 2026 7:53 pmHow does he compare to App’s last three OCs - Ponce, Barbay and Peterson in your opinion? I just want to have a clear understanding of how you would rank the 4 and why?

Re: Roster/Staff Updates
That is my stance as of today also. I don’t see how Loggains can be considered worse than our past 3 OCs and even Satterfield in terms of play calling. The talent level, especially at QB and OL, hasn’t been in Loggains’ favor either so far.AppStFan1 wrote: ↑Mon Jan 26, 2026 9:44 pmThis is why I won't complain about Loggains because I compare him to what we have had.ASUFan4863 wrote: ↑Mon Jan 26, 2026 7:53 pmHow does he compare to App’s last three OCs - Ponce, Barbay and Peterson in your opinion? Re: Roster/Staff Updates
The crazy part is that Ponce numbers here in his last year, as much as we all were frustrated, were better than DLo's with a generational qb. at South Carolina. I am speaking in total offense that is, Sure DLo had better rushing numbers and scored more points, but Ponce had better passing numbers, total yards, yards per play and therefore better total offense. The rankings were App State with the #33 team in total offense and South Carolina with #45. The chasm was even greater in 2023 when Ponce produced the #26 ranked team in total offense while South Carolina was #77. This year we had the #91 ranked team in total offense, the worst since 2020 and the time that covers all 3 you asked about. In 2022 we had the #22 ranked total offense. In 2021 we had the #31 and in 2020 it was #23 so everyone of the 3 you mentioned were able to run offenses that produced more yardage than anything DLo has done. If you go by the stats of total offense, he is below all of them. Prior to DLo our worst was #33, the best he ever had as a college OC was #45 (with a generational QB). The numbers don't lie, he isn't a good OC.ASUFan4863 wrote: ↑Mon Jan 26, 2026 7:53 pmHow does he compare to App’s last three OCs - Ponce, Barbay and Peterson in your opinion? Re: Roster/Staff Updates
Keep in mind that every major offensive weapon that we had last year was brought in by DLo. So if the offensive talent wasn't what it should have been, look to him. He picked his QBs, RBs, TE, most WRs from the portal himself, as well as many OL (most of which did not see the field).ASUFan4863 wrote: ↑Mon Jan 26, 2026 9:55 pmThat is my stance as of today also. But he also was hired late in the recruiting cycle and had to take what he could get. There wasn’t a whole lot in the cupboard when arrived. Look at the recruiting classes by year that have been posted, we failed at recruiting and were not able to adjust to the changing environment. Let’s see how he does with these new 63 players, LOL.t4pizza wrote: ↑Mon Jan 26, 2026 10:26 pmKeep in mind that every major offensive weapon that we had last year was brought in by DLo. Re: Roster/Staff Updates
63 new players means lots of new opportunities for play makers on both sides of the ball. OTOH, it also means a lot of team chemistry needs to be built in a hurry.NattyBumppo'sRevenge wrote: ↑Mon Jan 26, 2026 10:55 pmBut he also was hired late in the recruiting cycle and had to take what he could get. Re: Roster/Staff Updates
This is next level shilling even for you. T4pizza countered this position pretty thoroughly, but there’s no way you can watch any app offense over the past several years and say that what we rolled out there last year under Loggains was better. And those were his guys so I don’t really get how he gets a pass coaching the dudes he brought in to coach and somehow credit for being great at the same time. It makes no sense.ASUFan4863 wrote: ↑Mon Jan 26, 2026 9:55 pmThat is my stance as of today also. Comparing sun belt stats to SEC stats is certainly a choice. Two different playing fields but okay.t4pizza wrote: ↑Mon Jan 26, 2026 10:23 pmThe crazy part is that Ponce numbers here in his last year, as much as we all were frustrated, were better than DLo's with a generational qb. at South Carolina. The play calling and offensive scheme was on par with prior OCs. He brought in a QB who suffered what should have been a season ending injury in week 3 but he played through it.

Re: Roster/Staff Updates
Stats below...Not much difference between 25 and 24
2023 was a very good year. If we had a D in 2023...what could have been.
Not advocating for one OC over the other.
However, I do not believe DLo had "all of his guys". Many legacy players still on roster in some form or fashion. Named coach in December. First time coach. Was able to get some guys. Does he have "his guys" for 2026. "Kind of/sort of". Although a great recruiting class on paper, freshman typically do not contribute at an all conference level as a freshman or above average as a freshman. Most of the time it is a big jump to get a freshman body up to college level...and technique in the trenches even more. Most of these freshmen have not really had to defend a college level player every down throughout a game..or rush against a college level OL every down in high school. On the TP, DLo had a full cycle to work the cycle. We shall see how they perform.
Our points per game is very concerning the past few years. Would have been higher if we did not shoot ourselves in the foot on the first 3 drives at So. Miss.
