Good grief people, give the man a year or two . . . so many variables to what happend last year, this will be the first true test of what he and this coaching staff can do. DLo is not Cig. As much as some of you have a one year turn it completely around mentality, that is just not realistic for us with our $ shortfalls (and Cig seems to be an anomoly). I will be fine with a 2 win improvemnt this upcoming year and continued progress until we are back in discussions for the conf champ every year. If we win 4 or 5 this year, then I will start to seriously doubt if this staff has the chops in modern semi-pro football.
That has been my worry is that we have folks who see what Cig is doing and think that it should be done with App State. Could it? We don't know because it has not been done but I am not going to hold him to that standard. I just want to see him make a bowl game this coming season.
Not directed to either of you specifically. More of a general comment that all of the cig talk irks me. Didn’t he take something like 13 players from JMU with him to indy that had been in his system for multiple seasons? He took a “ready made” foundation with him.
We are having to try to rebuild some form of a foundation.
the 13 dudes he took from jmu isnt why he made the playoffs then won it all the next season. Hes a phenomenal coach. Hes a weirdo but he’s a great coach
How is he weird? Belichik was/is weird. Cig is weird. Sometimes, being a weirdo and seeing the world differently when matched with a relentless desire to compete yields greatness.
Hell, Drinkwitz is weird too.

Ode
We are the music makers,
And we are the dreamers of dreams,
Wandering by lone sea-breakers,
And sitting by desolate streams; —
World-losers and world-forsakers,
On whom the pale moon gleams:
Yet we are the movers and shakers
Of the world for ever, it seems.

He did but he took G5 talent and developed them into P4 superstars. I was just saying that with his quick turnaround I think a lot of boosters are going to think they should see that happen at their schools but not everyone is going to do it. It took Drink 4 years at Missouri and it takes different amounts of time for different coaches and schools.

Maybe a Tom Landry style would be more suitable.

I understand that folks point to win/loss records are their KPI for forming their opinion on who stays and who goes but there are a great many factors that carry as much weight as on field performance.
Doing the things off the field are values that should be a baseline (think Safety as a value at a company).
Results on the field compared to our peers are how coaches are measured.
By fans. Not by employers. See John Harbaugh and Mike Tomlin.
Losing to CCU and then GS Clarks final year caused a few influential fans to start the exit process.
If those coaches mentioned won more recently they’d still be in those roles.

Seriously, 13 players on a 100+ player roster is +- 1.3%, hardly a foundation. Clearly they could evaluate and recruit critical talent Jimmys and Joes > X's and O's

Yes, the math of 13/100 is greater than 1.3%...with that said, maybe the better math is, for offense, what % of points scored, yards contributed to total yards, etc.

if App is graduating people with those kinds of math skills, then App has far greater problems than the football team.

When they are upper classmen they are typically leaders and better able to establish culture. Especially when they have been in the head coaches system for multiple seasons. Much easier starting point vs from scratch. That is the perspective I am
coming from.

Don’t see him playing in the NFL.
Great guy and he played hard but he won't make it in the NFL. I could see him making it in a secondary league if he stays healthy. The medical history makes the hill he has to climb really steep though.

Pretty sure he’s out of eligibility, right?
