Sunbelt basketball standings
The Sunbelt seems to be very even very even from 2 to 10
Coastal beating Southern Miss and JMU handling Texas St. Georgia St over ArkSt. Should be a fun tournament.

Re: Sunbelt basketball standings
Good results last night. Troy looks poised to run away with the #1 seed so may as well have them help us a long the way. The middle is so bunched up a single game is going to swing the results quite a bit.
KenPom has Arkansas St in the #2 seed at 12-6 which seems possible with four games remaining against the LA teams, but road games there tend to be a bit wonky so I still wouldn't be surprised to see them drop a game. So it's possible 11-7 takes the #2 seed.
If App comes away with a split this weekend I'd be pretty happy, but anything is possible. Troy is well coached but it'll be the best Sunbelt Offense against the best Sunbelt Defense.

Re: Sunbelt basketball standings
This is what I understand the least. This is our net ranking stats. How can we not sign more than 7 teams in the top 3 quartiles play us. It makes no sense.
App StateApp State Sun Belt 209 208 309 226 11-9 6-4 281 5-5 4-6 326 270 218 -6.86 197 -3.40 0-1 1-1 1-3 9-4
These are our quartile records....we have only played 7 games against the top 3 quartiles.
0-1 1-1 1-3 9-4
1 2 3 4
360 teams, so 9 teams from sunbelt are in the top 3 quartiles and 3 are in the second quartile. Surely we can get more second quartile games in preseason. WHAT GIVES? Someone with some inside info. Can we not even get away games with 2nd and 3rd quartile?

Re: Sunbelt basketball standings
I could see a scenario in which we lose our last four games. Not that we’re playing badly. We’re not. But starting with JMU last Saturday, the schedule is formidable. We don’t appear to match up well with Marshall; Georgia Southern looked really strong in a lopsided win Saturday; and Texas State is the hottest team in the Sun Belt. If I’m being honest, back in November an 18-13 regular-season record would have exceeded my expectations.

Re: Sunbelt basketball standings
I watched us play GS last week, they can't match us in the paint and if we lose that one it will be because we had a poor gameplan and shot the ball like we did vs. JMU.
Marshall game will come down to defending their 3-point shooters.
0-3 down the stretch would be a rough end to the season.

Re: Sunbelt basketball standings
Marshall is punking S Alabama now. One thing that may play to our advantage is Marshall was in Statesboro two days ago and travel to Boone in 3 days. A lot of travel and 3 games within 5 days is tough.Saint3333 wrote: ↑Mon Feb 16, 2026 4:38 pmI watched us play GS last week, they can't match us in the paint and if we lose that one it will be because we had a poor gameplan and shot the ball like we did vs. JMU.

Re: Sunbelt basketball standings
Marshall hangs on. I'm glad USA pushed them in the second half. Thursday's game will be the Herds fourth in seven days, with three being road games.

Re: Sunbelt basketball standings
I think we are guaranteed a top 4 seed if we win 2 of our last 3 games. That would mean we give either Marshall or Texas State a loss. USA plays Texas state and Troy so at least one of them would be behind us at 12-6, and we hold the tie breaker over two of them. If we beat both Marshall and Texas State and Troy loses one, we'd win the regular season. Win all three and we're champs no matter what.

Okay, for those of us who haven't been watching every game this season, how much of a surprise has this season been so far? And is there any chance it's repeatable, or should we expect a mass portal exodus in April, and therefore enjoy the ride we are on for what it is?

Always expect the mass exodus at the end of the year. That's who we've become and what life as a mid major has become.rbarthle17 wrote: ↑Tue Feb 17, 2026 10:23 amOkay, for those of us who haven't been watching every game this season, how much of a surprise has this season been so far? Re: Sunbelt basketball standings
We lost a lot with Huntley and Tate leaving but can't say we lost much else (Beaubrun was good). There wasn't a mass exodus last season if you are excluding those with no eligibility left. Conners and Muttilib weren't cutting it. Muttilib is doing well at Grambling, but Conners is riding the bench at Ohio. Dodd, Wilson and Marcus all returned and all have improved since last season and during this season. Clarke and Njock also returned, but have not had a significant impact. However, having 5 guys return from last season probably helped with the gelling of this team. We added actual shooting and scoring threats with Tot and Jennings, and Banks was supposed to be more of an impact player as well as Vasser, who is out for the season. I believe we are always going to have a lot of ups and downs early in the season as Kerns figures out the lineups. He seems to have a good rotation now with Dodd, Jennings, Wilson, Tot and Marcus starting and Banks/Moodie off the bench. As far as next season, Dodd, Tot and Jennings are gone due to eligibility, I believe. If we somehow hang onto Luke, Marcus and Banks, Vasser stays healthy and we find another Jennings/Tate type player, we can be really good. There are also 3 freshmen that could have roles next season, Brim being one of them. But you can't really have a good idea of what next season will bring until we know who is staying.rbarthle17 wrote: ↑Tue Feb 17, 2026 10:23 amOkay, for those of us who haven't been watching every game this season, how much of a surprise has this season been so far?
