Mack Brown announces intention to resign

Unread post by asu66 » Sat Dec 14, 2013 9:53 pm

Former ASU head coach Mack Brown has announced his decision to resign at Texas after his team's Alamo Bowl appearance. Has anyone noticed how Mack has aged in the last 18 months. He's very obviously under tremendous stress. He doesn't look well.

You can put Mack Brown into the same category with Bobby Bowden and Jerry Moore. The not so sexy anymore coach who has worn out his welcome...DESPITE the FACT that all these coaches were still winning at their respective programs.

With resources and advantages Texas has, they have had winning seasons, but not seasons that would be considered successful.

agreed, with their resources they should be contending for more national championships. To be fair, Texas has been extremely patient with Brown the last couple of years. Other schools such as Florida, Ohio State, Alabama, would have gotten rid of him a long time ago.

I wonder how Florida State fans feel about that decision now.

I wonder if he'd be interested in coaching basketball?

;) I know that was written out of frustration and with tongue planted firmly in cheek. I share that frustration.

Mack doesn't need me or anyone else to defend him. I know him pretty well from his year at App. IMHO, he's not well. Time off will be his best friend for the next few months. He's set for life, financially, but his INTENSE competitive nature will keep him "in the game" doing something important for someone, somewhere.

He and this older brother, Watson, have spent their lives trying to out-do each other in a "friendly, brotherly" sort of way. Watson has been on the "big FBS stage" and back down a bit now to FCS. He's presently the head FB coach at Tennessee Tech where his dad was a star athlete decades ago.

If Mack gets his health in order, I wouldn't bet against his re-entry into the coaching or athletic administration professions. After all, he's got to "outlast" his older brother, doesn't he? How 'bout Mack Brown as Charlie Cobb's eventual successor as AD at our alma mater. I don't think that could be ruled out 3 or 4 years down the road. Seriously.

It would certainly make a splash should that occur.
