Steinbach and Anderson, two Germans. An impactful big and a great shooter. Neither have to start but can make an impact off the bench. I’ll be happy with this so long as Coby is brought back.

Selecting the Texas Tech guard probably lowered White contract a couple million a year.

Hope we do resign White however, and would like to see them trade a combo of Bridges/Williams/Green/Mann/James for front court help.

Lowered the contract or made it less likely Charlotte re-signs him?

I have to imagine he'll have plenty of teams willing to pay him if the Hornets don't want to.

I used to have strong opinions about the NBA (and NFL) draft. Now, between the fact that I've barely if ever seen many of the players play, and also realizing that I am just not good at guessing which college players will be good pros (beyond the few very obvious franchise-type guys), I just sit back and hope whoever the Hornets get turns out to be good. All I know is it does seem like their biggest need is size, and that I hope they re-sign Coby White.
Referring back to this comment, I have no idea if these two guys are good, but they needed a center and they got a 20-year-old guy who averaged 18 and 11 and led the nation in rebounding as a freshman, which seems pretty good at 14.

Don't know about Anderson; would have preferred a bigger guard to match what they're already doing with positional size, but if he pans out, I guess it won't matter much. He was also productive on a good team, and young for his class, so that's encouraging.

Anderson is small but has abnormally long wingspan and vertical for his size (40.5"). Add that to his elite shooting and assist numbers and I think he has great potential.

Sign White, trade Ball for another big, that would be a great offseason.

Peterson has made it clear that resigning White is a priority. That being said, I don't think you should trade away your biggest star in Ball, especially with the chemistry that was built last season. I think Bridges and Williams are tradeable and they have 3 first round picks next season as trade assets. Tre Mann will likely just be released, but they could include him in a trade, but don't think he will be on the roster next season either way. Hornets were one of the best teams in the NBA in the last half of the season and they've kept everyone from that group up until now, so if they stand pat and don't make any more moves, they have the same high-octane offense on the first line, then they have Coby, Anderson, James, Steinbach, and Kalkbrenner coming in on the 2nd line. That's a significant upgrade over last season. They have a full roster now, but most indications point to them having one more move to make.

It's a curious time to look to trade Ball in some ways, but on the other hand, you could look at it as selling high. Especially with his durability questions.

To appdaze's point, I don't watch the Hornets often on TV, but I got a chance to go to a game last year, and I couldn't believe how many bad shots he took. Either off-balance three-pointers or driving and just kind of tossing it up at the rim. It almost seemed like he preferred shooting a three off-balance and off one foot than actually getting set. Major talent, entertaining player and team, but I wouldn't be upset if they moved on from him.

What a haul of picks though. Thats some nice trade bait as well as getting a solid center to go with Kon and Miller

Ball and Green for Naz Reid and a bunch of future picks. I guess they are signing Coby now and depending on Anderson to likely be backup PG.

Trading ball is a risky move and invokes a lot of questions. On the surface, it’s a questionable trade but does it allow for more flexibility and growth than keeping ball allowed for? It’s worth nothing that the new draft lottery rules increases the value of pick swaps. Flattened odds truly make it a coin flip and now the hornets have two coins to flip.

It comes down to a question I’ve had for a while - Does a team led by LaMelo Ball win a championship? I believe the answer is no but I also believe more immediate value could have been received for him.

I'm not unhappy to move on from Ball, but I'm not sure about the return. The headlines all talk about this haul of draft picks, but they really only got one first rounder, and not until 2033. Pick swaps in 28, 29 and 30 are of questionable value since the Wolves are already a strong team and look to be improved. Even if you do exercise them, the earliest one is two years away, which is curious timing for a young team coming off a breakout year. And then some 2nd rounders, which are always a "whatever" for me.

I do like Naz Reid, as he fits the Hornets' needs perfectly and I expect will get even more minutes in Charlotte than he did in Minnesota.

I guess my read on this is that the Hornets are either looking to make another move (Miles Bridges?) or they want to roll with White and Anderson as their two lead guards. And also, I think they might have been a little more eager to sell high on Ball than the news reports suggested.

I agree the return value is questionable. Says quite a bit about their perception of Ball and risk/reward profile.

The front office the past two offseasons has changed the culture of the team. This team is getting stronger with a gritter work ethic. Moving on from Ball to focus on Miller and Kon does that and gives those two more opportunity. Kon stirs the drink, but Miller can be a closer in the league. Also frees up cap space to pay both of them.

White is now the top priority.

White/Mann
Kon/James
Miller/Mcneely
Bridges/Moose
Reid/Kalk

Biggest weakness is backup PG, can't rely on the rookie to fill that role.

There is also apparently a $40m trade exception for the Hornets now. The largest in history. Let’s see what happens with that.
