Re: Roster/Staff Updates
I am wondering if these guys will get any NIL, a scholarship, or end up at a small school because of the timing. Rashod and Ethan were so bad during the fall and at pro day that they did not even get a tryout so I can understand why they want to attempt this. They know it is their last chance to play football again.

Re: Roster/Staff Updates
Rashod had over 1000 all purpose yards while playing with an injury later in the season. I do not see that as "so bad in the fall". If someone wants to say he is not a great pro prospect. Fine, App St is not the pros. However, say Rashod was "so bad in the fall" is ludicrous and quite ignorant.

Re: Roster/Staff Updates
Clearly Ethan Johnson was bad and will not come back. He was one of the aforementioned D2 talents. Dubinion will be trickier to navigate, but it’s probably in the best interest of the team and him if he looked elsewhere.

All Sun Belt 2nd team in 2023 and All Sun Belt 3rd team in 2025 sure doesn’t sound like DII talent to me.ASUFan4863 wrote: ↑Sun Aug 02, 2026 8:23 amClearly Ethan Johnson was bad and will not come back. Re: Roster/Staff Updates
He had fumbling issues and was not very fast. Maybe he is not awful but do you think he is better than what we have? There is a lot to consider here. If we take him would the RB room be really happy about it? Rashod is going to expect to start and since we know what we would get in him I rather take a chance on these other backs. I think Lewis has potential to be a lot better and we brought in transfers that likely would not want another body in the room.BambooRdApp wrote: ↑Sun Aug 02, 2026 8:15 amRashod had over 1000 all purpose yards while playing with an later in the season. I heard we are full on scholarships anyway so I we would have to only be able to offer them a walk-on spot to take them anyway.

I feel the same on Rashod. I wish him well but we just don't have room.ASUFan4863 wrote: ↑Sun Aug 02, 2026 8:23 amClearly Ethan Johnson was bad and will not come back. Re: Roster/Staff Updates
They were not completely awful but neither was fast and we need to be faster than what they can provide. I mean Rashod ran like a slow TE and Ethan was ran like a slow LB who is 245 pounds. App State is not the pros but the NFL gives a chance to over 1,200 players every year. Any swinging dick who runs decent gets a shot these days but they did not. I think both of them would be really good FCS players or solid for another G6 but I am hoping we have faster players in both of their spots this year. We are full and I think it would be best for both us and them for them to find a new home for this year.AppSt94 wrote: ↑Sun Aug 02, 2026 9:24 amLet’s not forget that the other one was an All Sun Belt selection.BambooRdApp wrote: ↑Sun Aug 02, 2026 8:15 amRashod had over 1000 all purpose yards while playing with an later in the season. Re: Roster/Staff Updates
Funny but man the dude ran 4.8 in the 40 at 204 pounds. I hate to think what he would run if he weighed 280 or so to be an OL.

Always with a deflection after as asinie comment. My response said zero about him coming back or whether we have available to have him back ... Or whether he is better or worse than any running back in the roomAppStFan1 wrote: ↑Sun Aug 02, 2026 10:38 amHe had fumbling issues and was not very fast. I just don't understand how people are going to continue to pay for the clown show college football has become.

Re: Roster/Staff Updates
Not a deflection. Just because they made All-SBC does not mean they are really that good. We run the ball a lot so we always have a RB make the team. Rashod fumbled too much and was inconsistent. I know he was hurt but he was healthy by pro day and still ran poorly. I appreciate their efforts but hope we upgrade from both this fall.BambooRdApp wrote: ↑Sun Aug 02, 2026 10:48 amAlways with a deflection after as asinie comment. You don't entertain even taking him unless you have a scholarship, the RB room is okay with it, and you feel he can truly help your team. I think taking him would send a bad message to our current backs. It would tell them that our staff does not think they are good enough and we need more help. Whether that is true or not it is not a message I would send to our locker room at the start of fall camp.
Keep in mind that just because the court rules they are eligible does not mean a school has to sign them.

Re: Roster/Staff Updates
It’s too late for any football player to come back. We play in 4 weeks…
Unless it was LaNorris Sellers, it’s all just smoke.
For Basketball and Baseball, it makes sense for guys to try to come back. Season ended in the past few to couple months, and they can get to campus and have months to mesh and practice with the team. Doesn’t make sense for football.

So being all conference doesn’t mean that you are good? I wish that I could read your stuff and think that you had a clue that you know what you’re talking about but then you make stupid comments like this to defend an even equally stupid comment.

Re: Roster/Staff Updates
Did you not know there are politics in a lot of those selections? Coaches will often pick a senior just to honor them instead of an underclassmen who is better. What is even worse is that often media members vote in this stuff and they just look at stats because they either don't really know what makes a good player or see everyone.AppSt94 wrote: ↑Sun Aug 02, 2026 12:36 pmAppStFan1 wrote: ↑Sun Aug 02, 2026 10:58 amNot a deflection. Example one: Coaches aren't the only ones who play politics as the media can be worse. For example, when we were in the SoCon we had way more media members in the Greenville area because of Furman and Wofford so the SoCon Media Awards always had more Furman players than the coaches had. Furman had more media covering them so they had more players.
Another example is depth and how it can fluctuate. Being 3rd team or 2nd team in 2025 might not be the same as in 2022 or 2026.
Depth can fluctuate at positions as well. Talent can be real thin and that can cause the players not to be that good but coaches have to name someone.
Another is honorable mention in the Sun Belt is picked by the head coach of that school and they will sometimes use it just to honor a senior.
Another example of politics where actually being a senior did not help. Do you remember when we had Murrell and Hunter have a monster year? App nominated Murrell over Hunter for the Buck Buchanan Award because he had another year instead of putting Hunter on the list. Both were great players but Hunter should have been on the ballot that year. I talked to TSN writer who flat out told me at the time that App put Murrell over him because they wanted the name recognition to set him up for the next year.
Ask Loggains if there is not politics in those picks. I have heard coaches say that.
Also, if Johnson and Dubinion are great players then not only would Loggains want them but there will be P4s offering them. Shoot, Loggains could get someone to give enough NIL to cover their scholarship but I bet he won't do that.

Agreed. I think it makes much more sense for those sports but with football unless they are a star caliber player there is no reason to take them back. I know we are full in football but I wonder where we are on scholarships in those two sports?311neers wrote: ↑Sun Aug 02, 2026 11:36 amIt’s too late for any football player to come back. Re: Roster/Staff Updates
The judge in the Class of 2022 case has clarified, saying only players who were already in the portal during the portal period can transfer.
So most 2022 players, who didnt go into the portal because they were done, have to go back to their team if there is room.
