hopefully this is the start of a wonderful year and winning lots of competitions at the varsity club sports and academic teams level.

What university department runs this program?

I think it is set up like any club at the university. They may get a bit more funding but when I visited after the App Energy conference in 2025 it seems that is what they mentioned. And donations to ASU Fdn earmarked for them.

An alumni owns some land up there in a business park on the east side of town just of 421. I think he gives them the garage space, and they mentinoed without that all of this could not happen.

Students come from many different programs of study. Dept of Technology (different name now but I can't remember it) has some studens, Physics has some students. I know one or two students as I recognize them from the last two years of the App Enerngy Conference and they are Environmental Studeies majors. But Art majors, business majors, English majors are involved. It is very multi-disciplinary.

As far as shirts I hope they make some.

The Montreal school that came in second has won multiple times in the single occupancy vehicle class, but App State is the first school to win the multi occupancy class twice.

Again, this is truly a remarkable feat considering that we don't even have an engineering school and just beat the best our country has to offer (again!). Just imagine what we could do with an actual engineer school. Hell, Elon would probably have to make App State the Space X feeder school.

I think a lot of this comes out of the strong environmental science side of things at Appalachian to at least get the students interested. I think it also shows that engineering is not the end all be all.

I do think they have a hired coach/mentor or something which I did not add in the paragraph above. But it could just be a free advisor like any officially recognized club has on campus. I remember some of the students mentioning this but I can't remember the exact capacity.

I thought they mentioned a high school teacher from Wilkes County. Maybe I did not hear correctly or just am not remembering correctly. That was a conversation 15 months ago and I was not taking notes like a reporter.

It would be nice to have more money but that lack of resources can also be a big driving force. The garage area is very nice with plenty of room. I can't speak for their needing certain tools and such and that only due to an alumnus helping with free space.

But to see what we do with the resources we have and what some of the flagship schools do, it is frustrating.

I did email the team at the email posted on their FB page and mentioned t-shirts. I post here if anyone replies.

There is some overlap between the club and some of the environmental efforts on campus such as trash/recycling/compost separation after football games. I am hoping to help with that after one game to show some alumni support for their efforts and might be able to talk to some of them about all of this a bit more, but I also might not be able to get up to a home game until a bit later in the season.
