Where’s the Info?
Ok, I know this is not a new topic. But what the heck is going on? I’m assuming that DLo somehow perversely thinks that if he puts out info that the team will perform poorly or that he’ll loose more players to the portal….. unfortunately, this is one of the issues with an inexperienced HC, they really aren’t sure what to do or how to do it. Obviously, I want DLo to do well. I still think you have to do a fair amount of marketing the players to the fan base…. particularly when you have 50+ new players on the roster. It kind of pisses me off to see Napier talk about their first scrimmage, which unit did well which one did not. He also took questions about specific players. From us we’ve heard nothing but crickets. Yes we sold out season tickets, good that doesn’t mean you don’t have to promote your team. I’m surprised that Gillin doesn’t demand a certain amount of pre-season team publicity. I really believe it’s a mistake.

Re: Where’s the Info?
I agree but the dearth of info is not relegated to the head football coach.
Losing our best writers has really opened a gulf in info available to fans.
Loggains is tapping his nfl brain rather than cfb brain.
The vast majority of us don’t know current athletes/coaches and only go to a few events a year outside of games.

Re: Where’s the Info?
The overall info on our team. Little one and two minute clips from practice or a summary of the first scrimmage. The big secrecy is the problem. I am assuming that if DLo wanted it out there or if Gillin wanted it out there, it would be done. Maybe it is because of staff changes but to me that seems less likely. I’m sure I could get some of the info on 247…. It irks me to see all the stuff on JMU but really zero on Apps.

Re: Where’s the Info?
I don’t think it’s an App State issue personally. JMU has a dedicated sports writer. I think his name is Shane Mettlen. Georgia Southern and other schools have dedicated non-affiliated people as well. App has not had anything close to that since Ethan Joyce.
I’ve butted heads with David Ware some, but a lot of it is because there is a huge need for sports reporting and coverage from outside of the school with this fan base that I believe is not being fulfilled. This fanbase needs and deserves a dedicated third party source.

Re: Where’s the Info?
To build off my last post, one thing that is an App State issue is the lack of press conferences. Almost every respectable school at our level has periodic press conferences through fall camp. App has never done that to my knowledge.

Re: Where’s the Info?
SPORTS INFORMATION WHAT A NOVEL IDEA!!!!!!!!!!! Would be nice to see potential depth charts, which incoming freshman and transfers are making splashes in any fashion. Also progress from returning starters, letterman. Just any type of progress from position to position. Daily, weekly video snips also most welcome. Lifelong Mountainer here simply wanting some type of background on these young men before they roll into Kidd Brewer vs Maine in a few weeks. Would assume a new staff especially would like to share their progress with the faithful!!

Re: Where’s the Info?
In some ways I like the silence because the crap they sold for 3 or 4 years was not true.
We are used to being pumped up for a reason but in today's football no one knows until game 4 what we have.
So I will wait until October to see if I can be excited

Re: Where’s the Info?
To appease folks for fall camp, Once a week, DLo could have a student reporter ask the obligatory questions each week. What were the goals this week? Anyone standing out in practice?
DLo could then provide the typical responses that have a multitude of verbiage while saying nothing of substance at all... Post on various social media sites...And folks would be happy..
It's a mental thing with fans.. makes them feel like they are getting information and more attached to the program. Takes 5 minutes or less.
He should consider doing it.

Re: Where’s the Info?
Exactly right. We have lost our good writers so nobody is really covering the team like that. I'm fine with it though. Just win and the rest takes care of itself.BallantyneApp wrote: ↑Tue Aug 18, 2026 3:49 pmI agree but the dearth of info is not relegated to the head football coach.

Re: Where’s the Info?
We had third-party sources but they dropped the coverage because it does not really make them money. Newspapers have had to make decisions and sadly our coverage was among the cuts. Loggains is being more tight lipped than Clark and Satt were but if we win this year it won't really matter. If we start the season 5-1 nobody will be complaining about the lack of info in the summer. Most of the off-season info we get is not accurate anyway. It is all fluff designed to get us hyped and then let down if we don't win 9+ games. Just win baby.ASUFan4863 wrote: ↑Tue Aug 18, 2026 4:58 pmI don’t think it’s an App State issue personally. Re: Where’s the Info?
Like you just said though he would not give any real info. It is definitely a mental thing with fans. I hear people listening to videos talking about App from people who know less about our team than we do but people just want to see info whether it is good or not. Season will be here very soon and none of it will matter. If Loggains goes 10-2 this year I don't think anyone will really care. I really hope he proves a lot of people wrong and we have a good season. He sounds happy with the team from what I have heard so we will find out soon.BambooRdApp wrote: ↑Tue Aug 18, 2026 7:27 pmTo appease folks for fall camp, Once a week, DLo could have a student reporter ask the obligatory questions each week. Re: Where’s the Info?
Well, it does matter for fan engagement whether 12-0 or 0-12. Fandom is an emotional state of being. Some to many fans want to be engaged well before the first game is played. They want to feel like part of program.AppStFan1 wrote: ↑Tue Aug 18, 2026 7:38 pmLike you just said though he would not give any real info. It is definitely a mental thing with fans. As stated, 5 minutes or less....use many words but say really nothing unless he feels the desire to do so.
For me, not a big deal, however, I know some do want to hear from the HC during fall practice.

Re: Where’s the Info?
John Mark Bentley does a weekly press conference for wrestling during that season and I love watching them. Makes me feel closer to that program. And it's usually just a staffer asking questions. Wish Kermit would do it during baseball season as he's a natural talker.
In my opinion, the App State Football Head Coach should have two press conferences a week during the season; Monday and Wednesday. And the coordinators and select players should stand up at the podium on Monday as well.

Re: Where’s the Info?
David Ware isn’t really my cup of tea, but his coverage over at 247 is really all we have. He’ll put out a few 5ish minutes interviews with players and coaches - has had ones with DL, Trent Ramsey, and Jaden McBurrows in the last week.
Someone mentioned a depth chart, according to DLs interview there isn’t a set depth chart yet. Still rotating guys at a lot of positions.
