Re: App State-PC
I try to be reasonable, and I hate for anyone to lose their job. But, this has gone on too long. I am trying very hard to not be done with App basketball until the AD gets serious about basketball. That starts with making a move, and doing it now. The only thing keeping me "all in" for the team is the players. They deserve support, even if we don't support the coaches. This is beyond unacceptable.

Re: App State-PC
This is starting to rival the Maravich years in the mid-70's when I attended App. Typical game was 150 fans in Varsity Gym. Never thought I would see anything like that again but here we are. Still got to try and support these kids....

It was so embarrassing that the University didn't even send someone down to take pictures.

Re: App State-PC
Another thing -- Neal and Burgess both play 38 minutes and shot a combined 6-23 from the field. Why did they play that much if production was that low? Makes no sense.
Re: App State-PC
We support the team because they wear the Black and Gold and have ASU printed on their jerseys.
We expect better because they deserve better and a because we are App State!
We will not be defined by this. It has to be up from here!

Re: App State-PC
Take away Hamilton's contribution and the rest of the team shot 25%. Obacha once again had a multitude of offensive rebounds but only shoots 1-6 from the floor. Toney off the bench is 0-3 from the floor. The one positive was the FT %...78%.AppHoops wrote:Another thing -- Neal and Burgess both play 38 minutes and shot a combined 6-23 from the field. The best way to support the players is to get them a competent coaching staff.

Because we're committed to using three guards, foul trouble "limited" Hamilton to 31 minutes, and the only other guard in the rotation, Toney, was playing even worse than Neal and Burgess.AppHoops wrote:Another thing -- Neal and Burgess both play 38 minutes and shot a combined 6-23 from the field. I understand your position well. I feel rotten about piling on Capel and his staff, but also feel if we don't register our dismay that Capel will escape CCobb's post-season program review by playing the sympathy card that he didn't have Canty on the floor and as a result he shouldn't be held accountable for the record of his recruits.ASUMountaineer wrote:I try to be reasonable, and I hate for anyone to lose their job. It is a fact that our team is getting beaten all over the court; and at virtually every position. For example, hapapp mentioned guard play and the teams's poor shooting percentages on FGs and TREYS. I want to mention the team's poor post play. The combined play of Baskin, Obacha, Kobani, Spagnolo and Gilbert was outscored 16 to 28 in the paint by a weak PC squad. Unbelievable! On the season our post guys have been outscored in the paint 258 to 296. That's unacceptable.
It is a fact that Jason Capel was a two-time all-ACC forward who started as a freshman at CHill. He was a starting forward on a Final Four squad. He should know enough about the pressure of playing as a freshman to coach Mike Kobani along at a faster clip. He should also be able to coach all the forwards as a group and one-on-one on the basic fundamentals and finer points of post play--footwork, use of the hands, playing with and without the ball, setting picks and etc. That teaching is not evident on the court.
He also should be able to teach his players the finer points of in-bounds plays and both using and playing against the half-court and full-court press. The team continues to struggle in those areas.
This experiment with an inexperienced and untested head coach didn't work. It's time to end it and get about the business of building a men's basketball program that merits respect of all opponents. At the moment, our program has become the wide-spread subject of jokes. The only people who can fix this issue are Ken Peacock and Charlie Cobb.
