An architect told me that he thought building a parking deck is about $20,000 - $30,000 a space (not including land). That's just for a cement, not the additional cost of a track etc. Usually the top of a parking deck is used (for parking) so it's just not wasted space. Reinforcing a rooftop for the extra space would be expensive as well, plus you'd still need parking. If land cost was $355/sq foot like NY it might make sense, but I think it would be harder to justify here.

If a football field is 192 parking spaces, then it's something like $4 million for each level (plus the land).
We need more parking on campus for Saturday's and for other events. This would kill two birds with one stone. Plus athletics could split the cost with another department. Also, you have to factor in the cost of grading and blasting to build a track since we have zero flat land available.

Not saying it can't happen, just that the need for a deck would have to be justified on it own, land would still have to be cleared and the field stands, etc still would have to be built. Plus you'd still have to have a place for a football size footprint. I would think we're talking $20-$30 mil for about 4-5 levels.

Compared to almost 6 acres near the golf course for $1.8 mil. It would need grading and parking but parking could be shared between sports. I think a football field would be about 1 acre.

If they needed the parking deck anyway it might be worth the extra $3-$5 mil to keep in near by. No right answer I was just shocked when I found out how expensive parking decks were.

Does anyone know the exact dimensions for a multi use facility like this or how much land would be needed for such a project? This has potential to solve several issues from additional parking to keeping the track on-campus as well as possibly tying in the desire to have the soccer field (inside track) on-campus.

For those wanting to pay down/off prior debts, I agree with your sentiment but it is fun to dream!

with our debt, rising cost of the athletics, funding cuts from the state, it seems to me to be a pipe dream that the track will be relocated anytime soon, hope Im wrong, I hate seeing that track around the stadium, but its going to be tough to get rid of the track anytime soon.

Yes.

This is from the strategic plan released a year ago.

"V. Goal: Find a home for the track and field and field hockey programs.
• Design, construct, acquire space and fund permanent facilities
- Responsibility: Associate Athletics Director for Facilities, Coaches, Director of Athletics
- Key Components: Determination of Kidd Brewer expansion, determination of location on University-owned land

Won't need the track at KBS once this happens.
